I love it. I mean, I can't compare it with anything except the S9 I previously owned, but I've been visiting various national parks around Ireland this week and have taken some amazing shots, particularly with the wide angle lens.

My wife also has one and loves the camera too.

    Share your pics :D

Ya was thinking the same. I personally Can't justify the price of the S10 and S10+ but the e looks like a quality phone.

So I'm after going for the s10e

    I got my 10e on Wednesday evening, it's replacing a Nokia 8.

I had compared the two side by size in a shop for size before buying but probably not closely enough. Even if the 10e is classified as a 5.8" screen and the Nokia as a 5.3" screen the 19:9 vs. 16:9 screen ratio means that the 10e is considerably narrower than the 8 and with similar font sizes sentences fall over sooner and the 10e only displays a similar or marginally smaller amount of info than the Nokia, rather than the small increase I was expecting. My mistake.

The upside is that the form factor of the 10e makes it more comfortable for carrying in my jeans pocket.

I installed Rootless launcher straightaway and set up the phone so that the feel is very similar to stock android and arranged almost everything the same as I had on the Nokia. I have Google app to the left of the home screen rather than bixby. Stuck with Samsung's phone and camera apps.

On Thursday evening I followed XDA's guide for optimising battery life. I uninstalled or disabled all the apps that I could do easily from settings but still need to go back and follow their guide for disabling apps that can't be disabled directly in settings.

On Thursday on the first charge and before being optimised I had 4hrs 45mins SOT 100% to 18% over a 16 hour day.

Optimising seems to have made a decent improvement but I will need to wait a few more days to see how it is really performing.

I have set the phone to run in dark mode in settings and whilst for example Google app is running in dark mode Google News is not. Will have to investigate further what is going on there.

As I would hope to keep this phone for 2 years plus I will be trying to charge it on a 20% - 85% - 20% cycle to reduce battery degradation, it looks like battery consumption will allow that to begin with at least. I have also turned off fast charging in settings to help with degradation.

Face unlock works extremely well except in very low light/darkness and the fingerprint scanner is also much better than that on the Nokia.

I haven't used the camera much yet and not at all in low light but what photos I have taken are of excellent quality. Haven't tried video yet.

Generally very satisfied so far. I am paying €16.95 a month for the phone over 24 months over and above my sim only plan so costing about €405 in total so a good deal I think (I'm in Sweden and with Comviq) although I see that the 10e is down to €609 on Amazon.it so prices are already dropping a fair bit on it.

Anybody know the best deals out there to buy the 10+ out straight.
Seen one on adverts for €789 for the 128gb model. Would that be an ideal place to get them or would anybody recommend anywhere else?

    Cheers

Has anyone had to pay a bit extra through the Samsung trade in programme as the phone was valued below 200. I've been told I owe 70 and they want to take payment over the phone which I'm not too keen on.

Really? Most of what I've read says the 855 is far better.

Though since I used that battery saving guide on XDA, mine has been great anyway, so I don't really mind.

Can someone link me to this thread? Thanks in advance.

As anyone removed the screen protector from their s10 + and replaced with a different one? If so which one?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,033 ✭✭✭el Fenomeno

    I got this one:

    https://www.amazon.co.uk/AICase-Protector-Ultrasonic-Fingerprint-Dispersion/dp/B07P84CMY3/ref=mp_s_a_1_3?keywords=s10%2B+screen+protector+glass+uv&qid=1556990272&s=gateway&sr=8-3

It's one of the curved glass ones you apply with adhesive and cure with a UV light. Very happy with it, I never notice it as it has a real premium feel. Fingerprint sensor works flawlessly too (though I turned sensitivity up).

I paid three times the price compared to Amazon as I got it in store the day I bought the phone, I didn't want to have to wait a week. Got it in the phone shop in Stephen's Green, they actually put it on for me too as I'm terrible at these things and end up covered in fingerprints and bubbles.

    But I'd definitely recommend it.

Have had my S10e for two weeks now and generally very satisfied with it.

One of my main concerns when getting the phone was battery life. It's nothing outstanding but it gets me by. From 100% full I have found the limit to be 6 hours SOT, but on week days I generally don't go over 3-3½ hours SOT a day so it's no problem to just charge the phone to 85% to try to preserve the battery life and it gets me through fine. It's only if I am vegging on the weekend that I have found the need to top up the battery even if I was starting from 100%.

Battery drain overnight with the phone in airplane mode is between 1 and 2% which I think is very good although after waking the phone it does seem to lose up to 5% in the first 15 minutes of use.

The other concern was an alarming number of people reporting problems with phones not automatically switching between wifi and data but this was reported to be fixed an update the week I got my phone and I have not had any such problem.

Twice in the first week the phone became unresponsive and needed a reboot to work properly again. I have since set up a scheduled reboot of the phone every two days and it hasn't happened since. Not sure if it's related.

Just had another problem today when writing a review on Google maps the cursor kept hopping back to the beginning of the text every 3 or 4 seconds, almost like a virus but I have run a scan and it came up clean and I haven't had the problem in any other app yet. Anyone else experienced the same?

I have switched off all animations in developer mode and the phone feels very snappy as a result. The only remaining irritation is when turning on or off airplane mode the phone displays a full screen airplane symbol for half a second or so, is there any way to turn that off?

I got the Samsung LED flip cover when I bought the phone, it fits very well and offers decent protection IMO, it's proved handy to set up custom symbols to identify who is calling without having to open the cover but it's very low res and in general I would say that it is an overpriced gimmick.

Sound quality and volume from the built in speakers I find to be very good.

Will the snapdragon version of the s10 be fully operational in Ireland. Will it have all the band's needed. Want to buy 1 but dintvwant the exynos version. If sd Dosent work properly I'll go for something else.

I think the unlocked USA version has most of all the bands you need. Not sure if wifi calling or VoLTE will work on irish networks, that i’m not sure of.

    €759 from vodafone.

But I wonder if it's a dualsim phone, you can only use two vodafone sims?
