I currently have a car on my driveway which hasn’t been taxed since Feb 18. I changed jobs and got a work van which I use. Circumstances have now changed and I now may need the car from time to time during the summer.
As I never officially declared the car off the road as I was planning on selling it. Do I still need to pay the back tax and if so is there any way around this.
Also can I NCT the car without taxing it. As I don’t want to fork out a load of cash on back tax only to find I have a lot of repairs to do on the car also.

Sell it to a friend/family member, tax it and buy it back off them.

"Sell" your car to your best mate for a weekend and then buy it back off him, tax cleared perfectly legal.

Oh never thought of that. How long would the log book have to be in "" my friends name"" before buying it back.
Also can you put a car through NCT without Tax.

Can be sent back same day it goes in to their name, no problem. Yes tax not needed for NCT.

Or just sell it to yourself

I sold the car to my friend, he has the log book now. Does he have to tax it, or can you send log book back to transfer into my name. It’s been in his name about 2 weeks now.

I'd probably buy the car on Saturday - you know, get the working week out of the way, relax Friday night and get the business done on Saturday 1st of June...

Can you change ownership of the vehicle on the registration cert to the same name and address? I hope I worded that correctly.
It sounds like good as you would only put up one extra owner on the reg cert instead of 2.

i'd say you could put Pat instead of Patrick or the Irish equivalent of your name without a problem. Ridiculous situation , but there you go, even the MTO staff will tell you to do it.
