Sounds like a slight repositioning to sell more of them.
    RS models will be petrol.

Going to guess that this is to drive down the average emissions across the A6 and A7 as the RS versions would destroy Audi's fleet average.

I hope the new A6 is better than the old one!!!!!

Why what was wrong with the old one?

I can tell you what was wrong with mine.

I bought a new Audi A6 in early 2016. For the first year, it was a very enjoyable car and I was happy with my purchase.

However, in January of 2017, my car broke down as a result of the water pump failing. I and the car were rescued and the water pump was replaced by Audi. A week or so later, I broke down in Dublin and it transpired that there was "a crack in the gearbox". Again, I and my car were rescued and the issue necessitated a new gearbox being fitted by Audi. Needless to say, this was of concern to me as a customer of Audi, given the portrayal of Audi being a quality brand. It did nothing to inspire my confidence in the car and the reliability of the car to have been rescued twice in as many weeks with a one year old car.

In April / May 2017, a fault developed with the electric window of the drivers door, which seemed to have a mind of its own at times with the window opening and closing erratically when the window control was used. It was plugged into the computer in the workshop in Audi but no explanation could be found. Not long after this issue being checked by Audi at the next service in Athlone, and the usual reassurances given, I had just come out from a meeting at work to find that all four windows had opened themselves (while the car was locked and unoccupied!) Thankfully nothing was stolen from my car. I am 100% certain I had not opened the windows that morning because it was quite a cold morning. Again the car was plugged into the computer by Audi and no issue could be found.

My latest breakdown was in May 2018 when my family and I were to visit family members some distance away. We got into my car at 6am to set off on our journey and a warning light came on. I checked with the owners handbook and it advised that the car should not be driven and should be taken immediately to an Audi dealership. Yet again, I found myself in the front of a breakdown truck with my car on the back, being brought to an Audi dealership. I was advised by Audi in Athlone that the latest fault was an EGR cooler fault.

My dissatisfaction with Audi in general must be understood in the context that this car was an expensive purchase and quite frankly I expected better from Audi as a brand of quality. It is unreasonable to suggest that this car, given the problems within 28 months of purchase, can be considered as being of a standard which is acceptable. I have completely lost confidence in this car and cannot tolerate the Audi advertising on TV and social media that the brand is a quality product manufactured to a high standard.

Perhaps you can understand why, to date, I remain a very dissatisfied Audi owner.

The old A6 was a huge seller. The new A6 doesn't appear to be selling as well I'd say?

Did you have your keys in a trouser pocket? This is a "feature" of VAG cars that if you press and hold a button all the windows open. I even did it on my Lexus once but can't figure out what button I'd pressed to open them all, I was having other problems.

No. This was checked and ruled out as the cause.

Top selling premium car in the country year to date outselling E Class and 5 Series. Numbers still relatively small compared to other years as that segment has been decimated by cheaper uk imports due to collapse in sterling value.

This is gonna annoy the Battery car brigade..they thought all cars are going to be electric!

Bit disappointing. Only 60-ish more horsepower than the current 282bhp A7. You’d expect an S to be a significant jump over an A.

I know 60 is a good jump in power, but you’d be expecting more. I would anyways.

The previous model had bi-turbo competition variant which was very close to this new S performance wise:

Rest of the world is getting the petrol version - we can thank EU and their CO2 quotas. It will kill most of hot hatches soon enough too: https://www.autoevolution.com/news/peugeot-308-gt-and-308-gti-killed-by-emissions-133689.html

    The bi-turbo was 312bhp I think?

Looking at the Beepbeep data, the A6 is Audi’s biggest seller this year surprisingly. very close numbers to the 5 series and e class (as always), albeit all 3 marques are well down on sales this year (Mercedes -35%!?!?).
Interesting the review thinks it’s good that the new s6 is ‘only 0.4s slower to 60’ at 5sec, in a world where everything is getting quicker each iteration, and the hot hatches are faster now too. The s6 costs £65k, which is a tad more than RS3 money I would think

Competition was 326hp plus overboost at the top of it (extra 20hp or so)

I own electric, not annoyed at all

If you kept up to date with news VW announced over 12 months ago about future plans including the mild hybrid engine like the one in this Audi....they also have pushed huge money into the petrol equivalent....

Combustion engines are not due to be removed from market Till 2030 in most countries, who would think VW are not going to release a new diesel for 11 years now??

Diesel still has a place in market, just not 80% market share it had in Ireland, do you not think so?
