File transfer when both are on the same wireless band will be very slow as it is all shared using the same medium. Removing one wireless link by plugging the Tiviar in on Ethernet will improve things.

Long answer: file transfer is two way traffic. Packets are sent in batches and must be acknowledged before more are sent. Your wireless router will only send OR receive to one device at a time so both your devices must take turns talking or listening to the router. This makes file transfer on wireless very slow.

Thanks for the details. The tiviar is plugged in wired via home plugs so that shouldn’t be on wireless if that helps

Homeplugs are completely hit or miss may be your issue. Have you tested them to see what speeds you can get through them as they are? Nothing beats an Ethernet cable for two way traffic.

It should also be remembered that the recordings on a sat box are dot TS files. Unlike say an MP4 Youtube video, 1 hour of HD from a sat box can be 4Gb

I think i see the issue you are having. When I'm referring to kodi, I have installed it onto a seperate Nvidia shield in a different room. From your post I think you are installing kodi or xbmc on the openvix/enigma2 box itself?

If that is the case I can't speak to that solution other then to say I couldn't get and kodi or kodi clone to run well on the tiviar myself.. Try installing kodi on a seperate pc or laptop and add the enigma add on (through my add ons)

Hi, I got Kodi going and it works a treat on the Zgemma which to me makes it even better than the alpha plus I would have bought except WOS were out of stock. I can switch between kodi and the sat box easily. You don't need the PVR function to run kodi I found out by trial and error. I have been through a steep learning curve in the last month but I finally have a setup that now feels better than Sky. I'm thinking of doing a guide here to help others with the parts where I got stuck. If on the fence I'd say go for it but be prepared to have to learn and be frustrated at times when getting set up, but very rewarding in the long run.

the Tiviar has an awful lot going for it and I dont think we will see its like again. It has aerial loop through, sat loop through, scart out, hdmi out, internal HDD, 3 x usb ports, e sata drive, hdmi, optical out, takes unicable, component out and so on. In a word AWESOME and with the THHB image and support on here OUTSTANDING. Best box I ever bought and I have quite a few.

Am I right in saying the best price these can be got for is around €150?

I think the box is great, some little fiddly things to get used to but it does what I want.

Could someone recommend a plugin for organising programmes in the playlist?
I have installed Series Organiser and although it works in a way, it's not brilliant. eg I have 'Horrible Histories' as a 'watched' series which means it has a folder called 'Horrible Histories'. Any new recordings are placed in this folder but also are in the root folder. If I delete it from the root, it deletes also from the subfolder. I have to move it from the root to the subfolder in order to get what I want. Ideally I'd like it to not place it in the root folder.
Maybe there's a setting I missed, or a better plugin?
    Thanks

Series Organizer scans ‘root’ at predefined intervals, which can be as frequent as 15minutes. The way it should work is move each new episode of ‘Horrible Histories’ from root, into the series folder. It creates a new series folder, if necessary, when it finds two programs with the same name.

I have found that it can stop working correct if the box isn’t fully rebooted, from time to time. I reboot ours every week, which seems to be sufficient. I haven’t come across a better plugin for organizing programmers.

I think you are on the original Fortis OS

Have a look at this page and is the first image what you see when you boot up?

If you are on the Fortis OS you will need to flash a version of OpenATV first before you can follow the instructions on this thread.

Thanks a million, that was the problem. Enigma2 fixed in a flash (or two)!

I am replacing an AA2 box with broken terrestrial tuners, and the odd reboot when it didn't like the buttons I pressed. This box looks amazing by comparison.

Thanks THHB for your image, and thanks everyone for all your help.

Thanks NewClareman, I reboot the box every night as we like to turn off things when we go to bed. Could it be the naming of the programmes? They are all called 'Horrible Histories' should I associate a date or time with them for it to work better? Or is there a way to force it to do it for me, save me doing it manually? If it's the best I can get then I'll just have to cope.

These boxes are no meant for shutting down as in powering off at rear, standby mode allows bouquets and epg updates,

Yes stop that nasty habit. These boxes are meant to be left in standby and update the EPG and scan for channel frequency changes in standby during the night, every night

I agree that a “hard reset” as in powering off with the power switch should only be used as a last resort - i.e. if the box has locked up. However, there is certainly some resource leakage that requires a reboot, now and again. There is absolutely nothing wrong with doing that.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,956 ✭✭✭greasepalm

Agreed the odd time i have to do the odd reboot to clear bugs, some people power off boxes at night i dont.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 25,420 ✭✭✭✭sligojoek

Well, THHB's image is set to do updates during the night and just putting it on standby won't prevent this but a total shutdown will.

Yes that's fine, I understand that, I download the EPG myself anyway.

Getting back to the Series Organizer - anyone else using it successfully and if so were certain configuration settings required? If I manually run 'Organize series' I get a window saying 'Finished' but the window title is called 'error' so presumably some issue is occurring. or know of another that might be better?

Yes but least do it right. Suddenly cutting power by turning the socket off at the wall will have drastic consequences. You could end up with the box failing to boot and needing a reflash or worse still, boot looping. You have either a hard drive and/or usb mounted, can you be sure it's not writing to it at the time? It'll end in tears.

The correct way to shut down Enigma is through the software menu. It's designed from the ground up to be left in standby

Now, the next thing you're going to notice is that there's a Standby/Restart in the menu which has Deep Standby, Standby, Restart and Restart GUI. There is no Shutdown :D

What does that tell you? :pac:

Edit: it's ok lads I found the Tiviar manual and code, got it working

Anyone know how to sync the Tiviar remote to your TV? Mines a Sony Bravia KDL 32BX320

I had it working before but after a box reset not working

Yeah just note that it is for the box original software, not Enigma.

Did you get a recordings organiser plugin? I'm pretty sure the one I'm using in my image is "movie organiser". It scans the recordings location every 15 mins and moves similar recordings into their own folder. It actually moves the recording, does not leave a copy like the symlinking you described earlier in the one you've been using

Ah right - I found it handy in the beginning though - is there an Enigma specific one?

No, not yet, I had already tried using that one you mention - assuming it's this - https://www.techkings.org/threads/movie-organisor-plugin-organise-your-series-recordings-into-folders.97690/ - I had put the file onto a USB stick and tried installing from there but it failed to install. Do you have an install image you used that worked for you? I could try that.

I couldn't find Movie Organiser in the list of plugins I saw when I connected via Ethernet cable to my internet.

Is it not available to download in menu->plugins? I'd be very weary about downloading plugins and skins from the internet, the ones in the download repository are versions that are all tested and working

Not that I can see, but maybe I'm looking in the wrong place.
I click on Menu, then Plugins, then download plugins and I get 9 options, drivers ,extensions, picons, security, settings, skincomponents, skinpacks, skins, systemplugins. I choose drivers and scroll down to m, there's moviearchiver - closest fit that I can see, but i don't see a movie organiser.

Are you sure it's not already installed? Don't go into downloads, croll down through the installed plugins, probably on the next page.

No, assuming it's called 'Movie Organiser' it's not there.

lads is there any way to connect a external hard drive that is all ready full of tv shows etc... and to watch it??
I can see all the files on the media player but it takes about ten clicks to get a show and that's no good for the kids and especially the bloody wife

You are better to flash NewClaremans image in the other thread which is setup for a local media library
