I have uploaded 19 DVD's containing family memories onto my external hard drive and I have no sound. A popup informs me that no suitable audio codec is installed. I haven't upgraded the firmware for years because of the time it takes to do a new channel list. However, I am wondering if a recent firmware upgrade includes the Mp4 codec. Can anyone advise please?

MP4 is not a codec. Its a container.

It will probably contain a video (H264) and an audio codec. The audio codec must be something weired if the Box does not recognise it.

Download VLC or Potplayer (both are free) for your PC. It will tell you what the video stream and audio stream types are within that MP4 container. You might want to check whether the audio stream for AC3 is set corectly on your box - make sure on the box settings AAC/AC3 downmix is turned on.

If that doesn't work, there are free software programmes that strip and convert the audio stream (to say MPEG2) and let you reattach it without having to re-encode the video as well.

Couldn't find AAC/AC3 in the Ariva 252 settings. However, your mention of the VLC player inspired me to download this onto My Sony Bravia 55" Android TV, so problem solved. Just means removing the hard disk from the Ariva and connecting to the TV. Inconvenient I know but I might buy another external hard drive for the Ariva and leave the one with all the Mp4's on the TV.

Many thanks again for the heads-up.
