If it's a psni Jeep and their own fault they crashed, I would assume they pick up the bill.

And it cost no more than 25-30 euro worth of diesel to drive down from Belfast. And you want him to use a helicopter because some donkey thought he was Billy big balls and thought he could drive into Garda headquarters unhindered at speed.

In fairness the pressy seems to have no issue rolling out the state jet to go up north !

What makes you say that, out of interest like?

Not a mention of it or independent verification anywhere else. The park is a public place so depending on the time of day there should be plenty of photos too.

Haha, I'm sure you do lad!

 Some awful Walter mitty types on this site.

I cannot stand these types of posters. Just flat out claiming people are liars. Why would you not take what the poster said as face value?

How would you like to be called a liar after every post?

Blah blah blah invasion of our sovereign state! Chucky Chucky Chucky, ra ra ra!

This is akin to John Delaney taking a lift from the IFA back to FAI headquarters or the time the Obama’s car got stuck at the American embassy.

Great work by the garda on duty but like that other user said, why isn’t that barrier up all the time?

Breach of protocol by Harris, he’ll apologise and we’ll all move on while some old armchair warriors will scowl on indignantly.

Well it wouldn't be like the media to exaggerate or imagine parts of the story.

Perhaps if the commissioner would answer the pleas for him to make some statements on the incident might help so.

Seems to be questions over the original story , this is the examiner's take on it.
Gardaí have confirmed there was an incident at the headquarters in the Phoenix Park.

I’m sure the story could potentially grow legs but at the same time it does need to be investigated and clarified, even from a health and safety point of view!

No its clearly not the same. Quite a bit of irony in your post, complaining about others while desperate to shout down the story

There are different levels of bullet proof and you would wish that armed officers guarding our buildings, and ourselves, are issued with armour piecing rounds to stop vehicles.

As for the commissioner coming in with armed people. If there was no Garda car at the boarder turn around. Its not like driving down is the only way to make contact with a different police force.

Haha. Yeah they arm gardai with armour piercing rounds.

I don't think the man on the gate is even armed. This isn't some dystopian future where ED209s patrol the garda HQ ready to annihilate any northern reg cars with armour piercing bullets.

We're always being told about resources issues within AGS to explain performance. If Drew Harris allowed two cars to escort him back to Dublin, that's wasting expensive resources on both sides of the border. The PSNI will probably put in for foreign duties. And DH should know better than bringing PSNI personal over the border into Rep Of Ireland. What's that even about ?

I think they're speculating that Harris' career could be over, though I'm not sure either.

Oh and back on topic of cost of say diesel....

There is a lot more involved then just diesel.

There are a number of men/women tied up for the time of transportation including vehicles which could well be actually patrolling and looking after citizens.

Sure the armed units are babysitters to drug gangs and personal body gaurds at our expense.

The worst thing about that lad is there’s 3 of him, each stupider than the other.

By the way this thread has yet to produce a Brexit joke.

Could be something as simple as the message wasn't passed on to the front gate.

Might just be a case of poor communication or deliberate in that someone wanted to make Harris look bad - I can't imagine he's very popular with some of the more longstanding members of the force.

    It doesn't....???

No I did not have a clue.

Think of it this way how many man/women hours are lost in the likes of this where we have helicopters in air corps and rescue and of course Garda one also.

Is there still 2 Garda ones and yes I'm aware it's the air corps that fly these unless it's changed.

The real problem here, if the story is in any way accurate, is that the commissioner (who up to now I liked) behaved unlawfully. He didn’t float up the Lagan on a bubble so the fella should have known that once the PSNI crossed the border they were an armed gang, probably illegally armed.

Have you any idea how much it costs to put a helicopter in the air. Absolutely ridiculous suggestion.

Is there not something in place though where on official business just like the army.

Irish army would be over the border at times.
