One of the scumbags involved in that horrific burglary of the Corcoran family in Tipperary a few years ago attacked his pregnant girlfriend while on some kind of steroid rage, and for infuriating reasons which I can’t recall st the moment, they didn’t even activate the suspended portion of his sentence for he burglary. It’s absolutely f*cking vomit inducing.

So the steroids were a “mitigating factor”, hence the lack of extra time. I personally know people who’ve used anabolic prohormones (steroids in all but name) and, like alcohol, they don’t generally cause people to develop violent tendencies or anger issues - they simply exacerbate pre-existing ones. There’s absolutely no way steroid use should be considered to rob a person of their ability to choose not to act like an animalistic scumbag.
