    Hi all
This is probably a stupid question but I don't know the answer to it. Sorry if it's in the wrong section too.

Basically took a week off a few weeks ago. Didn't get a doctor's note. Stupid me. But have to go back to the doctor's in a few days.

Do or can doctor's backdate a sick note?

    Thanks

    I've got one before,

depends on your doctor really, some are sound, some are miserable

Depends on the doctor. Mine would. My sisters doctor sent her off with steroids and an inhaler for her chest infection and still wouldn't give her a sick note.

You took a week off - were you sick?

Did you see the doctor at that time? I cant see why it would be refused if the doc has a record of the visit.

Were you actually sick and did you see the doctor at the time??? If the answer to yes is both and you just forgot to ask for a sick note, then I can't see why they wouldn't give it to you.

If you were just having a sneaky week off and didn't go to the doctor, I know mine would laugh at you if you went looking for an arse-covering sick note after the fact.

have some experience with HR and it's a very slippery slope to try and climb if the employee says they simply couldn't afford a doctor visit.

it would be noted as a first time if there was a pattern then things may change from HR POV but it is very feasible you could not afford a doctor's visit.

I know it's in everyone's contract and that but you have to trust your employees

I don't think the doctor is supposed to give you a sick note for a previous illness if he did not examine you at the time.

I feel asking him to do so is putting him in a awkward position.

However if he did previously examine you, then I think it would be no bother.
