Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

    €30 for 100. Shot a different ground last weekend as a non member and was charged €22 for 90 clays

    12 for 50 for a member think its 15 a non member. That includes the sporting skeet and compak layout

    5 stands of 8, sporting.
    Members and visitors charged the same.
    Cartridges available at 6 euro/box, Eley Blue.

    Thats cheap going! most places will only get you a 25 compact for €10.

    Hilltop member rate last night for two rounds of 25 clays at the ball trap, a round of 35 clays at the compact spotting and four boxes of GB 12G cartridges. Cost was €45 in total!

    East Coast in Roundwood is €10 for 50 clays (for members).

    The deal in Hilltop doesn't seem great when you work it out. GB's retail at €6.50 for fibre wad (plastic are probably considerably less). 4 boxes x €6.50 = €26 so €19 for 85 clays.

    Clays retail around €15 for a box of 150.

    Have also shot in Wells House outside of Gorey. They are €10 for 30 clays.

    €19 for 85 clays in a shooting grounds is great value. Yes you can buy 150 clays for €15 but that's just the variable cost for the business. Clay grounds have overheads like wages, maintenance, and electricity.

    They also have to buy traps, have shelters, a club house and invest in facilities.

    And on top of all these costs they have to make a profit. Of course you're free to set up a trap in your own field if you want but you won't have the same quality layout and service.

    In Hilltop in these winter and Spring evenings you are shooting from covered stands under floodlights. That is also a consideration and has a cost!

    Great value IMHO, you should try it some Wednesday evening.

    the norm for most clay shoots around here is €10 for a 25 compact and €20 for a 50 sporting layout.
    Anything cheaper that that is great value IMO

    Hi,

    In addition to the valid points raised above, in terms of various add on expenses that need to be covered by a club besides the actual cost of buying in the clays, people should be considering both the cost of clays (for members) and the actual cost of club membership each year.

    Membership at Hilltop is more expensive than some other places, but they typically open six days a week (and an evening or two, during the summer), and they charge less for clays than quite a few other clubs, from what I've seen. As a result, I reckon Hilltop's one of the better options for the frequent shooter.
