How do I do this excel function in Libre Office

=sum(a1:a150)

every time I try it another cell number appears at the end of above formula, whatever that is about.

Just a guess, but are you using the arrow keys to "leave" the cell when you've finished entering the formula? You need to use either Enter or Tab. The arrow keys allow you to highlight a cell to include it in your formula

Good point and I think I've got the hang. Should it not be the exact same as excel?
