With the Sunwolves folding, any players worth tempting north?

I'm right in thinking we still have room even if Faddes signs?

    Yes.

Their head coach Tony Brown. The most innovative attacking rugby coach in the world.

This morning. There are a handful but most of the best will be absorbed back into the Top League I'd say.

Feels like Rugby globally is a little bit in disarray. Every season SR appear to be in ReOrg mode, Pro14 want to add more teams, International Rugby still not set and tier 2 nations can't get to the top table.

I really hope no more SA teams are added to the Pro14 of the back of this. My preference is still for fewer games of higher quality where the top stars turn out for their teams more often. Only way that would be possible is a Euro League of 3 divisions. Dropping the cup competitions.

    Definitely opportunities there:

    Grant Hattingh - lock/blindside
    Lappies Labuschagne - No8/flanker
    Michael Leitch - No8/flanker

If Ulster could get Mcgrath/loosehead and have one more Backrow we really would be set. With emphasis on bringing on the academy back rowers over next 3 years, even go as far as a condition of signing anyone.

This would seem to indicate the SA teams are staying put in super rugby. As it’s the Saffers who are pushing for the Sunwolves to be removed because of the extra traveling. Seemingly SA tv brings the biggest slice of pie to the table.

leitch is japenese captain, so i wouldnt expect him to move.

the other two are decent though not spectacular IMO.... could walk back into a side like the cheetahs though.

of all their players currently someone like hayden parker could get a job at a top team as backup to some international 10.

Mark abbot as a 5.5 would be a decent addition to most Pro 14 teams.
both pryors will only ever be top league club standard.

jason emery is a decent utility back

There seems to be a need for something significant to change.

If the new world league happens (and I think it will), it will be interesting to see what impact it has on domestic rugby.

Regarding the Pro 14, I'd like to see us go to a Pro 16 as it would make the structure of the season easier to understand and fairer. But how do we get there? Personally I'd rather we invested time in maybe getting a team from maybe Spain and a team from Georgia in the competition rather than chasing teams from SA. Obviously they wouldn't be that strong, but with proper funding a Georgian team in particular wouldn't take long to be competitive, especially at home.

Definitely a few worth a look, then throw in Paddy Butler, Sean Dougal & Dave Foley out of contract at Pau.

awh big shame! we finally get Moore back and now lose Hume. Pic on twitter with foot in cast and him saying he's had surgery.

    See Murphy is abroad also.

    Team news

    (15-9): L Ludik; R Baloucoune, D Cave, S McCloskey, R Lyttle; B Burns, D Shanahan;
    (1-8): A Warwick, R Herring, M Moore, A O’Connor (captain), I Nagle, M Rea, N Timoney, M Coetzee;
    Replacements (16-23): J Andrew, W Herbst, T O’Toole, K Treadwell, C Ross, J Cooney, M Lowry, A Kernohan.

Note: O'Toole at loosehead cover?, thought he looked like he had lost wieght/leaned up. Could the start of him going forward?

Has Herbst not covered LH before? O'Toole has always been a TH and if they were going to transition him, I don't think now is the best time for it. Anyway that's a strong side, I really like the backline, and it'll be good to see Coetzee back. We need all five points with Leinster basically conceding the game to Edinburgh.

Couple weeks but in full training

Generally speaking a good night for us. Ok Edinburgh won, but that was expected given the Leinster selection, but the Scarlets and Benetton losing means a BP win tomorrow night puts us 7 points clear of 4th place with 3 games to play. 3 tough games, but two wins will definitely see us in the play offs.

Edinburgh have a tough run in and at least when they play us it's in our hands to say.

looking like a competitive end to the season, good to see! but nail biting time with few dead rubber games.

    Big blow, replay looks bad!

    McCloskey is terrorising them!

Mattie Rea has started very well.

Hope Burns is ok. He has started well.

Agreed really want Rea to do well! We need a proper 6!

    Some pace to the game!

    Lowry's step there!

    Ah lovely footwork from Lowry.

McCloskey is terrorising them, but I'd like to see him to look to pass a bit more.

The kids are getting the job done. McClockey, Rea and Coetzee all carrying great as well.

O'Toole on, has Moore gone off injured? He was heavily strapped?

Exciting game this. Really enjoying it.

The hit on Balacoune was very naughty and deserved a red.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 18,152 ✭✭✭✭bilston

So 5 points is the main positive tonight. We didn't exactly put them to the sword, and we should have done. McCloskey had the Kings scared, but he maybe passed the ball once. Mix it up a bit Stu!

Lyttle and Lowry were the two big bright spots in the backs and Rea had a pretty good game. Coetzee was excellent for the 54 minutes he was on. I wonder has Rea done enough for a bench spot next week.

It's hard to see Ludik being back next week, and Addison is likely to be out too. I can't see Marshall coming back for this game and Gilroy seems to be out still as well.

    Possible backline for Leinster?

    Cooney
    Burns
    Stockdale
    McCloskey
    Cave
    Balacoune
    Lowry

I don't think Lyttle is even registered for Europe!

Bench depends on who is registered and who isn't. I would have thought Shanahan and Nelson will feature. McPhillips if he is registered.
