Netflix just announced that this is airing tomorrow (15th).
It's 8 episodes and looks absolutely compelling from the trailer.

Not done with Kate and Gerry's blessing anyway....

Kate and Gerry McCann refused to take part in the documentary, saying it could "hinder" the police investigation to find their daughter.

They said: "The production company told us that they were making the documentary and asked us to participate.

"We did not see and still do not see how this programme will help the search for Madeleine and, particularly given there is an active police investigation, could potentially hinder it.

"Consequently, our views and preferences are not reflected in the programme. We will not be making any further statements or giving interviews regarding this programme."

Probably for the best from an objectivity standpoint. A significant group of people would slate it if there was a hint of bias towards the parents.

Was expecting an hour and a half long documentary, not a full series - so that's great.

The trailer, well, the way it's edited at least, seems to be pointing towards Kate & Gerry in a sinister fashion.

All of it was padded out with extraneous guff – the history of the Algarve as a holiday resort, accounts from journalists of how they rushed to get to the story and then their breathless accounts of waiting for and not getting any news … The talking heads were frequently drowned out by the sound of barrel-bottoms being scraped.

Watched the first two episodes. Finding it boring, I’m wondering is because I know the story and most of what went on? And I’ve my mind made up on what happened?
Tbh it just makes me want to go to Praia de luz, looks gorge

The first 4 episodes are ok, and reasonably balanced, but it quickly descends into a pro-McCann/bash the Portuguese cops exercise from episode 5 on. The Kennedy's in particular made some trashy comments about the Russian web designer.

Garbage.

Like they were working in Cuba or a corrupt Latin American country. Smoking and drinking.

The British journalists don't cover themselves in glory either. Oh - Robert Murat - he asks lots of questions. He must be guilty, like Ian Huntley.

Except of course Huntley knew the girls and admitted he was the last to see them. Murat is just a bit egocentric. He offered his services as an interpreter and what did he get? A scumbag tabloid journalist going to the police and saying you should take a look at this guy.

Biggest issue I have after watching the first 2 episodes is that complete scumbag Kelvin McKenzie being in it.

There have been cases of American girls turning up a decade later - after giving their abductors the slip. And Natascha Kampusch in Austria. The psychological damage must be devastating.

On episode 2 now, that la dust described her as an “attractive girl”. WTF? She was 3.

It also shows how the media can misportray things too, the BBC fella making out it’s a shock no one saw anything. It’s a quiet back street in a quiet tourist town in April. It’s not as shocking as you might think that there was relatively no sighting.

Iv watched most of this. The amount of children abducted is horrific and heartbreaking. I didn't realise the number of children missing were so very high. It makes you feel so helpless. The police that investigate these cases and sometimes even manage to find these poor children deserve medals.

After watching that I still don't know what to think happened that night. The idea that any parents could be involved in such an incident is unbelievable, but then again so is the idea of some random bogeyman who just happened to know the perfect moment to take her.

The thing that makes me believe her parents weren't involved is that if they were, what did they do with the body? It just doesn't make sense to imply the freezer hypotheses or that they could somehow move a body in a foreign country under the scrutiny of all that media? Poor kiddo whatever happened to her.

I've just watched the first episode and it was a strange one. The algarve tourist board bit in the middle was strange but hopefully it gets better as the trailer hooked me in.

Yeah, I mean we have an apartment in that village and love it. It’s incredibly safe but we’re never under any illusions that you still wouldn’t put the shutters down, lock the door and never leave the kids at home.

The babysitting is about 20e an hour. Peanuts for two doctors, peanuts in general for somewhere like that anyway.

I still cant get over Kate Mc Cann running from the apartment without the twins, she is shouting someone has taken Madeleine and yet she has left her twins in that apartment with the door open. Maybe it was shock, none of us know how we would react but the twins were tiny, surely you would pick them both up and run with them.

I watched another programme about this and one local who ran a shop said there is no way you could walk around that resort with a child and not be spotted by someone, this shop owner made no further comment but was quite adamant that there were always people walking around and you would be spotted. Did anyone else apart from the friend who was with the group see the person with the child in his arms.

Its utterly, utterly bizarre that anyone would leave their children sleeping, you would take better care of your hired car. The child was so let down.
