I've been there a few times and it was always good.

Signage outside was pretty poor though, you'd easily miss it.

When they first arrived in Cork city they seemed to do a lot more on social media and they had the marketing ploy (which was very clever I thought) of giving free coffees to anyone named a certain name on that particular day (ie. Free coffee today for anyone named John or Mary)

More recently they were lower key. And for some reason the place didn't seem to become one of the go-to places around town. I will never understand why some places do and other places don't.

It's a strange one - I used regularly go in there to get out of the rain or cold because I knew I'd always get a seat.

Good coffee, staff were nice. If I'm down that end of town now, it'll have to be Nectar. Is it any good in there? Haven't been in before!

I asked Warren Allen on FB and they said they've indeed closed their city branch.

They told me they don't have any plans in the future to reopen in Cork City, but their Brandon branch is still going strong. Sad news!

Not a recommendation, but hardly worthy of a thread

Anyone been to KFC in Douglas?
Went twice after a match in Musgrave Pk., with Padawan. Both times, about 10 pm ish, the place was quiet, but terrible glacial service, place was filthy, staff looked like they couldnt give a fiddlers.
    Wont last long

There was a hell of a lot of money spent putting that there... What'd go in its place...?

Maybe new management might make a better fist of it

They seem to do a good drive through trade.

Agree with you there, the place is a kip, and we love KFC once a month but avoid Douglas even tho' it's only down the road from us, I asked for the manager and was told "we have none", I am presuming she probably was the manager.

Do they? I drive through douglas on that road most evenings, traffic usually stops on that road. there’s almost always a queue at the mcdonalds drive through across the street, and kfc’s drive through and sit down area looks empty. Maybe it is just the way it’s laid out, that I can’t see the cars from the road?

Lots of competition around Douglas, and it's a bit isolated from other businesses. Ideal for drive-through (or drive to) but wouldn't get much walk-in business I'd imagine.

The problem with KFC is, its awful sh*te.

Thats not me trying to be a fast food snob or anything but its muck.

Given its got the biggest fast food franchise less than 100ft away and about a dozen other competitors in the village for take aways or sit down, I dont think it was ever going to do a massive trade out there.

The only time I went out there to the drive thru was during the summer looking for one of there ice cream crushem's and they had no ice cream.

It actually is, anytime I've had it (about 4 times in total and only because other people were going there) I've been massively disappointed. I don't understand why it's one of the biggest fast food chains in the world.

So the rule is, if you're going for fast food in Douglas you drop the F from KFC.

I hope not! Fantastic food, especially the lunch specials. Pad Thai, delish!

Apologies if I got it wrong on Kubo, I will take a walk over this weekend to double check and update here. Agreed on the food there, best Asian fast food in the city, service can be patchy though.

Brewdog talking of opening in Cork but want to get through a few locations in Dublin first, so probably 12 months off at best. I wouldn't be surprised to see them go in around the new developments in the Docklands since they have targeted Capitol Dock in Dublin.

That’s great news, I love their punk IPA.

Is there a pubs in Cork recommendation thread?

Are you thinking of the Abbot Ale House? The Bierhaus is not too far away, but it's on Pope's Quay just by the pedestrian bridge.

Thali is very good, I recommend the jimbu chicken. Their naan breads are the best I've had in Cork.

No, afraid not. It's more Indian/Nepali.
