Choice based letting

Hi all. Got a quick question in relation to the choice based letting that has been introduced on the council site.

If I am interested in a house and I happen to get the accommodation, does that mean that I am now under the council housing or do I still have to pay rent to a private landlord?

The reason I ask this is because, some of the houses I saw on the website of my local council, are also up for rent on daft for example and or myhome.

    Mod Note

Moved to State Benefits where this subject appears to get wider coverage.

Choice-based letting is directly from the council. At least it was when it was in Louth.

Thank you. Yes, I've never seen it at the same time either. The houses that were up, were marked as sold on daft for example.

The councils have bought the houses for social housing, they aren't old housing stock belong to the council, it happens regularly.

Got a quick question. We're to vacate in August. I live with my gf and her parents live with us as tenants (her dad is gone bankrupt, long story).

Anyhow since we don't have much time in our current house, would it be possible to apply for two bedroom houses that come up on the choice based lettings site? Would the council allow it for 4 people?

I believe you's would have separate housing applications rather than a joint application so the parents would have e to apply Separate to your application

Thank you. Would there ever be an instance that the social would give a 2 bedroom house to 4 people? I read somewhere if there is a couple with 2 children of the same gender regardless of their age, then they can apply for a 2 bedroom house. Is that true?

You would be entitled to a 2 bed property not specifically a house , depending on where your based you could be looking at 2 bed apartment/flat ,

Some of the CBL listings do say suitable to 2 people only or room suitable to one child due to size ,
