Lads, any way to get All4 in Ireland on the Shield? Do I need a VPN?

VPN or smart DNS needed and as there's no native android TV app it'll need to be sideloaded too.

My remote control was received by the warranty crowd a week ago yesterday, and I heard diddly squat since.

Got on to live chat again, who told me they received the unit and a new one would be sent out, and I'd get an email keeping me posted as to when etc.

Still no email, or any other correspondence since. ..

What have been the experience of others here surrounding this?

Sent a broken controller. It took 2 weeks from when I sent it to be told a replacement was being sent back. The communication is/was non existent from when I sent it to being told it was coming back.

RMA'd the remote a month ago. Arrived into Amsterdam on Friday morning, replacement shipped Monday morning, received Tuesday. Whole thing turned around in a week.

You dont need a VPN or Smart DNS for All4. It works fine in Ireland. You will need to sideload the app.

I have it installed on my shield, use the right stick on the controller as a mouse pointer and it works fine. Can’t watch live TV but all the catchup works.

What did you use to sideload it? I tried Aptoide, but when I launch it, it displays in portrait mode on the TV!

I installed another app to make it landscape, the rotations screen orientation app or something like that.

Anybody having Netflix issues? I get a second or two of video and then buffering that never ends. If I back out and try to reload, it crawls slowly up the percentages until it stalls around 40%.

    Settings> Apps> YouTube> Force stop

    Reopen should sort it.

I’m having problems with RTÉ player app. None of my playlists/favourites are there ... which is a pain as I spent 30 minutes saving everything last week.

It also seems to be very convoluted to sign in.

Anyone any ideas where my playlists are?

It really is. Anytime i tried to use it, it'd play as far as a commercial break, then start back over from the start again

Just a quick update to say the problem had fixed itself the next time I tried it. Thanks for everyone that gave advise. Lets count it as a win :D

    Hello, everyone!

I just signed up for these forums after googling for issues related to watching US-exclusive Netflix content on the Nvidia Shield TV.

I signed up for SmartyDNS in August of last year, after a successful trial period. My main uses have always been streaming movies and TV shows using the Shield, which is my main streaming device.

It worked perfectly until at least October. I then stopped watching US Netflix for a while, and when I tried to to that again this week, I was greeted with the unblocker/proxy error message.

I had the DNS servers manually configured, and later installed the SmartyDNS app. Even though it was configured correctly (even unblocking Amazon Prime Video), it didn't work for Netflix.

Since I also sign up to PIA, I tested with their app, and the results were the same as with SmartyDNS: everything working across all devices, except for Netflix on the Shield.

Are any of you having any success watching US Netflix on the Shield? If so, how?

Is there that much extra on the American sites, that you need a VPN?

There's sites like THIS one, that show you what's new in the various Netflix Global stores.

Well it might not be the vpn but the iPlayer app is locked down way more than the other apps. The 02001 error is apparently usually temporary. All other things being equal I can't think of anything other than the vpn being the issue for some reason. Or maybe a DNS issue. Maybe the DNS is somehow leaking around the VPN on your router or shield? Try restarting your router and shield. Maybe try another VPN? Some like tunnelbear have a free amount to use.

Thanks. I'll try that tomorrow when I'm back in the house. I was using express vpn with the same settings as before. But maybe a simple router restart may resolve it

Are you sure an update didn’t upset your settings on the shield ?
    Getflix works for me

I’m sure. Apps like Amazon Prime Video are still unblocked on the Shield using either SmartyDNS or PIA, so it’s an issue especifically related to Netflix.

Reddit comments point out to newer versions of the Netflix app being more strict in terms of geoblocking, but even after uninstalling updates and reverting to the factory version of the app, the issue remains.

Someone also mentioned the Netflix app being locked internally to Google’s DNS servers, but you said that you’re having success with Getflix, and your Shield and Netflix app are both updated, according to your latest posts, so I don’t think the Netflix app is using Google’s DNS in any shape or form.

I’m actually still signed up for Getflix as well, which is the Smart DNS service I used before switching. Unfortunately, I “upgraded” to a lifetime plan thanks to a promo from a third-party website, and soon after that, Getflix stopped offering support to any devices other than computer browsers for “promo subscribers”.

That really upset me, considering I paid more for a lifetime subscription and they simply changed the terms and conditions of the agreement after I had signed up. They also used to be an Australian company, but were sold to a Turkish one and never made their customers aware of that fact. Kind of a shady business, IMO.
