Is there an optimum time to book Irish rail tickets?

Often see tips on booking flights, I'm wondering is there an equivalent to booking train seats? I presume the answer is asap, but has anyone any insight? TIA

Earlier the better, I'm seeing some €9 fares from Cork in about 4 weeks which is great value. That's for the Low fare which I don't think is in operation on some routes and you have to take that specific train.

Heading west to Dublin for monthly appointments.
Can book up to may, and it seems to be the same price for every trip.
€30 return isn't bad.
