Don't even know how that happened as I thought I had to check the location for that one manually before. The joys of hand-placing every pin. Moved to somewhat closer now anyway!

Your map has The Black Horse in the wrong place, btw. It's west of Ravensdale Lane, on that terrace, as you say.

Worked there for four years. And closed it up for the last time.literally grew up in the place.

I really wish the person that opens it the utmost best but they’d need to be very street savvy and brave to make a go of the place or risk being eaten alive in it.
Hopefully they take the chipper to and try do food as they’res very few pub food options outside the pines and laurels in perrystown worth looking at.

The very specific area, they were roughly at two ends of the same set of shops. KCR House is closer than I remembered though.

Whitefriar was only opened out of the blue for a couple of years the black horse went in as the council houses were being finished around the time Crumlin was built up.The white friar was a gangsters paradise and the police fought hard to keep it closed.

That's certainly my memory: walking around the corner and "WTF? Since when was there a pub there?" I was never inside.

Unconfirmed rumour is that four provinces brewery in KCR industrial estate are the ones looking to use it as a brew pub possibly.Ill take that with a pinch of salt however rascals going into kilmainham gives me hope.Id love to see it tried atleast.

There is a lot of rural pubs closing up shop now, outside Dublin anyway. I think these new harsh drinking driving laws and mass enforcement of checkpoints the day after are the straw that broke the camels back. The ones hit worst seem to be the actual rural ones, village ones and in smaller towns where there is no taxi service or public transport. A lot of places are just hanging on anyway. It's not much better in the bigger towns but there is at least some hope of possibly getting a taxi there.

If the rural Uber service was rolled out quickly and properly it might help things. But I'm not that hopeful on that happening.

Think you're right about this, a post in a Facebook group I'm in for bartenders seems to indicate so!

Haven't heard anything on the Wetherspoons in Abbey Street in a bit. It must be 3+ years ago now that I first heard it was opening.

The exact opening date is written on the front of it. It's in mid-May, I think.

edit: 14th May. From the other thread.

I spoke to someone in the area and in the drinks trade and they said that is true.

Also mentioned to a barman in the area who know Four Provinces lads and said they had been looking for a pub for a while.

Would be interesting to see if it happens.

Dead Centre Brewing open their new BrewPub next Thursday in Athlone. Pictures I've seen so far look fantastic and the location is phenomenal, massive waterfront location with an outdoor area long the water and great views of the castle and river.

Will try make it in for a gander next weekend.

Well, their pub. The brewkit is a few months from commissioning yet. The place looks great though.

No, their BrewPub, they'll be brewing on their pilot kit from opening day and it's fully licenced.

On the corner of Church Street and N Burnswick Street.
The Richmond I believe is the old name.

That'll be handy. Another nice place for when over smithfield way.

Two doors up from the aforementioned Taproom 47 that has been under slow refit for about a year now. Unless they've got it rent free until opening or something, that's got to hurt

In the midst of all of the Dublin chitter chatter we neglected to mention that Dead Centre opened their doors in Athlone last Thursday. Lots of beer and a decent pizza bar as well.

Cycled past today and definitely is Four Provinces- name changed and all!!

According to one of the neighbouring shops, opening this weekend.

Looks like the chipper next door is part of the refurb, which would tally with what I heard.

Looking forward to seeing how this works.

Currently undergoing a massive refit so that looks like you’re correct there.

Jackson Court Hotel going up for sale. Who'd have the money for it?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,421 ✭✭✭griffdaddy

Walked past the Four Provinces earlier. Looking forward to it opening up. Anyone any idea if it's purely a brew pub doing their own stuff or if they'll have other craft beers or food etc? The area badly needs a place like that, I'd say it'll do well. Took a pic as well, attached.

Nobody has yet opened a craft pub (on a pub licence) in Dublin with no guest taps. Bru House has very few admittedly
