Do you need the height of Jeep for your back or looking for something more comfortable, something like this has massage seats https://www.donedeal.ie/cars-for-sale/jaguar-xj-series-3-0-sdv6-portfolio-auto-275-bhp/20411212
Think a few Citroen and Peugeot have them as well.
Or something with good bucket seats to hold you in place, golf r etc

Have you been in one yet? I found them quite cramped on the inside height wise and I'm only 5'7 so hardly a giant. Also do you really need 4wd?

I hate the trend towards 'high cars'.
They have their place but does everyone need a qashqai type car?
Pricing is rich too in general.

If people went on need rather then want most would be in a focus or a golf type yoke.
People don't generally need coupes, executive saloons or performance cars.

Those Range Rovers look lovely but I'd avoid them. They are plagued with reliability issues, the most common being engine oil contamination from diesel due to serious DPF issues from higher than expected regen cycles.

My Dad looked at one and we took it for a spin. Pretty cramped inside but a nice car all the same. Perfect for a young woman or a retiree who doesn't carry passengers or kids. Without being sexist, it really is a feminine car.

Drastically overpriced new imo and that one looks priced very steeply for a 6 year old one.
You'd get loads more SUV for similar money

Cheers for that, but the one linked is 5k more expensive and higher mileage. That being said, BMW do have a better rep! Thanks for the link - I will look into it :)

I've had a GTD and a GTi and its the height (or lack thereof) of the seat that makes getting in and out uncomfortable.

I've not been in one yet. That garage is quite a bit away so I was wondering if it was worthwhile driving over to try it at all.
I don't need 4wd, although in the snow last year my RWD was having trouble, and the weather conditions are supposed to get worse, and so I saw it as not being a bad thing to have that available if I was changing my car at the moment.

That's a comment on high cars in general and I get why car purists would dislike them. That being said, my missus has one and it works well for us, hence me looking at something similar too.
As for the pricing, I thought it was okay, but I could definitely be wrong! I will keep looking - thanks for feedback

My mate has had one for 3 years (2015-2018) and has just bought another. Zero issues. Mind you, they were brand new (and a multiple of this one's price) but the low mileage on this one, coupled with a full service history made me think it would be a safe enough bet. I'll look into the DPF issue!

I agree it has that image, but I happen to like it :o If it were a light colour I would think so even more, but with it being black I thought it looked well.

    ..........

Ah yeah, was just a quick example........... x3, x5, volvo xc90 etc etc
For €25k you'll get a lot of 2013 SUV, if you went Hyundai Sante Fe or something you'd be in a fresh 2014/2015 low mileage yoke too.

You should look at the Volvo xc60 also. Those have very comfortable seats in them.

Have bought our last two second hand cars from Audi, recently went in to see what next one will cost. Currently we have an a5 on a 2.9% pcp (came in with eyes open on that) but now audi are saying 5.9% is the rate for second hand models. Last time out we walked away from a 5.9% rate, they called back offering 2.9% and €500 off the price we were tentatively comfortable with. Presume this is the same again and were we as serious this time the 2.9% would be achieveable. The last two purchases were very difficult and I had to just leave the showroom without a car until they called back which they did both times to agree my fair offer. Not sure I’m up for that dragging the two kids in and out of showrooms this time. Anyone on 2.9% apr on second hand audi recently and any advice on getting down to the numbers while actually in the showroom.

PCP rarely makes sense on a used car as they still have to make money on the deal but with the car already depreciated being second hand and worth even less after another 3 years they have to recoup the money through higher interest/monthly payments by the time the 3 years are up. Manufacturers generally offer better incentives to buy brand new via PCP too as they are measured by sales numbers, whereas with second hand that car is not counted and it's very possible that the PCP rate is defined by the dealer rather than the manufacturer so may not have the same flexibility around finance packages. PCP is more designed about getting into a brand new car more attractive.

I think pcp on a used car that’s less than 12 months old can work but beyond that the numbers don’t work out well.
The reason the apr is higher is to up the monthly to make buying new at lower apr more appealing.
The rates are set by Audi/VW bank not the dealer. Sometimes they do special rates and can get you a better one but they have to get ok from their bank so may not do it in one sitting.
You may have to spell out your bottom line and leave to give them time to see if they can get it for you or if the car you wanted is popular they may decide someone else will come along and be happy enough to purchase and let you walk.
Best thing might be to be sure you definitely want to buy the car and go in person on a weekday morning telling them what you want and when they will be able to contact the finance side of things and you will have time to sort the deal that day.

Driving a €155,000 Panamera Hybrid this week. The options list is extensive. It’s incredible to be able to sneak out of your driveway without waking the neighbours and when around the corner you can properly fire it up. Very useable when you just want to drive normally and then insane with the twist of a steering wheel button.

A relative looked into in 2017 and while the initial purchase was palatable, the options sent the price stratospheric. To have them half right you need to spec them.

That's why this one was 155! To have the Porsche logo embossed on the headrests was €500 per seat

First time I've seen this colour in a BMW, it's amazing looking in the flesh, cloudy day but the car just popped. Picture doesn't do it justice.

    San Marino blue.
    Gorgeous.

Cheers didn't know what colour it was, had the white leather interior. There was tons of cool cars around Porsches etc but that really stood out, it's not often I'd take a picture of a car.

Slightly off topic but has anyone booked or thought about booking the M2 Competition, 440i or x3 M40i through BMW First? - https://www.bmw-first.ie/fleet
€150 rental fee with a refundable security deposit of €1500 on your credit card.

It's tempting me for during some week in this summer but they only have one collection point in the country (Dublin) which would be a pain for me.

I've a mondello voucher I need to use...was thinking of giving the M2 a go..

The €200 for the weekend seems like better value (did I read its €150 for 24 hours)?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,146 ✭✭✭James Bond Junior

I have a voucher for the M2 and M4 in mondello. Really looking forward to comparing them.

I must definitely look into this, I'm dying to drive the 440i and M2.

I read it as €150 for Tuesday to Thursday. Collect it Tuesday morning, drop it back Thursday morning.

I'd say demand for weekend rental will be crazy given they only seem to have 3 cars servicing the entire country.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,834 ✭✭✭carsfan2

Wouldn’t want to be buying one of them when they come off the rental fleet!
I imagine they will be fairly tired cars.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 51,609 ✭✭✭✭bazz26

I wonder do they require you to do a course on how to drive those cars probably especially the M2. I can just imagine someone who has never driven a powerful car spinning that M2 on a damp road and end up in a ditch very easily.
