He was on Marion Finucane over the weekend. A very non-impressed Marion left just a couple of quiet seconds of 'dead air' after each of his little routines to make it clear that she wasn't laughing. He came across as a bit of an ass, almost begging for a sponsor for his podcast.

It's niche, but I'd consider sponsoring it.

As effectively the only show on RTÉ that dares to mock, satirize, or criticise the establishment (and indeed RTÉ itself, I like it. The quality of the impressions and the sketches admittedly vary, but I like it......and some people on various Radio Threads would have you believe I hate everything, so that must be saying something.

Yes, because it has been scientifically proven that we have less funny people per head of population than any other country ...

Well given that he is the only comedian with the balls to do impressions of the sacred cows like Finucane and Duffy, I'm surprised that they let him in the door.

You never watched The Savage Eye then, with Joe tweaking his nipple clamps while ramping up the misery meter? Or saw the Apres Match or Irish Pictorial Weekly guys ripping off Joe Duffy and the woman from Clontarf?

I think it was implied the poster meant “presently”.

Disappointed there was no "Liberal Ladies", hopefully you'll include that next week if you're reading this Oliver. ;)

The flip-flopping of the host to whatever side of the debate the caller was on was a nice touch.

Just listened back. The random o'shea with interpreter skit was hilarious.

The Simon Harris voicemail sketch was pretty funny too. And yeah, he should bring back the Liberal Ladies.

I thought the last sketch was excellent, particularly the Tommy Gorman Vs Tony Connolly parody. Also like the Sharon Ni Bheolatron character, I imagine Sharon might not though ;)

Surprised he gets away with much of it TBH. But this country protects its own and always did.

I absolutely loved his parody of Marian Finucane and her red wine and fags obsession. Good enough for her.

I think his take of Vlad and Murphy is excellent.

But.... it is not funny by any stretch. It is entertaining though. In a mild enough way, has to be, given the potential for court cases here.

The SNíB sketch has been a staple for years but wasn't on last season I assume as her and Dobbo had been split from Six One (which was the basis for those sketches).

Agree the Tommy v Tony was amusing

some of his most personal skits have been aimed at Mary Lou Mcdonald (comparing her to a purple Quality Street, etc), I think it's fair to say he applies his satire equally across the board.

It's one of those rare instances where I find it impossible to even guess a broadcaster's political affiliations (Cormac Ó hEadhra - Shinner. Claire Byrne definitely gives preferences to Labour and FG). I genuinely wouldn't even try guess at Callan's affiliation, except to say he's probably not a Lord Ross voter.

Sure there's an ex-GP on Newstalk these days talking about the dumbing down of the media without a hint of irony.........

    I don't see the irony.

Journalism degrees were fairly new here up until the early 00's. I remember exploring the career myself at the time, but it offered no real benefit that couldn't be found in doing a humanities or even a science degree. How many well-known journalists anywhere have a journalism degree?

Tyrant, if you check his Twitter feed you will see he is probably the most anti Government hack you would meet in a days walk.

I don't use Twitter these days, but I'll take your word for it. It's a slightly different platform, one where he can be his own person. All I mean is that, based on the Radio Programme, he distributes his satire equally.

Also, the very nature of a party being in Government means they're open to greater attention, and indeed satire. Nobody will waste their time satirising the Communist Party of Ireland, for example.

He also ‘ writes’ a column for some paper and is wall to wall anti Govt.

Bit on the Gene Kerrigan style, hurler on the ditch stuff.

I do take your point though, he does hit all targets in his satirical revue.

Could do more to highlight Boyd Barrett and the rest of the bullhorn crowd, in my opinion.

    But hey......it’s no big deal.

SF country? A Protestant Fine Gaeler topped the poll in the last election in Cavan Monaghan, but ok.

Monaghan is the most fervent SF county in Ireland and iniskeen is about the most republican parish in monaghan, its hardly a massive reveal for anyone who knows anything about the place

Monaghan also has a large protestant minority, no revelation either.
