Yomif Kejelcha is targetting Hicham El Guerrouj's Indoor Mile World Record Saturday night at the Milrose Games, The time to beat is 3:48.45. Kejelcha has looked impressive already this indoor season running a 2:17 1k to beat Olympic 800m bronze medallist Clayton Murphy and followed that victory up an hour later by running a 3:52 mile, he then ran 3:51 two weeks ago where he put 4 seconds on the field in the last 200m. Ed Cheserek is also in the field who owns the second fastest indoor mile of all time but is on the road back from injury.

Kejelcha has said he will make multiple attempts at this if he doesn't get it Saturday night. They also hinted that he could go after the Mount Everest of indoor and some people argue the ultimate World record of Daniel Komen's indoor 3k of 7:24.90 later in the season. To put that in perspective, only two men in history have run faster outdoors, Hicham El Guerrouj and Daniel Komen and the last time someone ran under 7:25 for a 3k indoors or outdoors is a few months shy of 20 years ago.

NBC will be broadcasting the mile in the states so a live stream should be handy enough to pick up on mobdro or watchathletics so I'll try to post something up closer to the date.

The mile record has stood since 97 and the 3k since 98. Can Kejelcha take these down?

Micheal Saruni just went 2nd fastest all-time in the indoor 800m with a 1:43.98 off an incredibly fast first two laps from Brazier. Some race!

Apparently, news is that Kemoy Campbell had a seizure and has stopped breathing trackside.

Kejelcha done a post race interview and said he will try again with all hints leading to it being at the aptly named BU last chance Invitational in two weeks time. He has alot of time there to be gained looking at the official splits and BU is notoriously one of the fastest indoor tracks in the World.

The pacing wasn't good either last night as the first lap was run at 3:41 mile pace with the second 200 split of that at 3:32 mile pace. He went through halfway on 3:44 pace. The pacer only made it to 750 metres as well when ideally, they wanted him to get to 1000m or even 1200m if possible. As crazy as this sounds, I think he could run 3:46 if everything falls into place and they get someone who could lead him out for 1200m

I don't know what a second attempt means for a 3000m attempt this year as he said he is going to try for Kenneisa Bekele's 5000m World Record as well this year. Going to be an interesting year for the distance track races and Kejelcha almost looks like the next Bekele. Salazar thinks he could break every distance record there is from track to road in his career. Wouldn't be a suprise to see him run the 5/10 double at Worlds this year.
