I saw them yesterday in the Moore St branch. It would be a shame if they go, only one euro and a good quality product.

I was wondering why I couldn't find it in my local store. I think there's some in the one near work so I guess I'll stock up on my way home. I didn't know it was such a high percentage but it'd explain why I can't stop drinking the stuff.

Damn, I meant to stock up on this stuff. It was a nice big solid block.

Amoy is half price in tesco at 89cent, I got a couple of tins and they sound very watery if shook.

    It is only 55%
    http://www.tesco.ie/groceries/Product/Details/?id=251978322

tesco own brand is 60% but is €2.69.

I imagine you can make it thicker by adding something else, like coconut cream.

This is from a UK site 2.5 years ago, but aldi might be worth checking.

Found an organic one in Dunnes with 98% coconut extract its €2.19 tho, its somehow less calories, so its not the extract same, but will have to give it a whirl...in saying that tho, i'm hitting another lidl store on sunday in the hope they still have the good stuff, and stock up with as many tins as i can carry ha ha

OP, just noticed that you're in limerick (me too) Maybe try the Asian supermarket in Henry St. You might get coconut milk of a higher content there.

60% is the highest I've seen in there

I would guess there is a high amount of coconut water. I would compare the fat content, which I supposed is similar enough to comparing calories.

2 grams less fat, and a little less protein

This is better suited to Food & Drink than Cooking & Recipes, so I've moved it over :)

I find the Thai Gold Coconut Milk to be the best thats commonly available.

Aldi do a very nice one and it's always of a pouring consistency and not a solid lump on the top like many others. They also do a light version. It's only about 99c.

Tried the aldi ' Asia ' brand in a curry this evening. Just as good as the Lild one, IMO.

IT's back on the shelf in the Galway branches. Not sure how long that's been going on. I thought I had looked for it last year & not found it. Definitely there today. Saw it appear among the purchases of teh person behind me in the queue and then went and looked at it.
    2 varieties, a 91% and a light 45% both are 75p.

It's back here too! So happy!

Are there any Chinese / Asian supermarkets or shops anywhere near you? They generally stock good quality coconut milk, same goes for any sort of spice you might use.

Language evolves. Sometimes things catch on and there's nothing wrong with using terms that the majority uses, even if they're not technically correct.

Peanut butter and cocoa butter are not real butter either. And the Milky Way is not made from dairy.

The thread is about the cans used in cooking, not the Alpro-alike fake cows milk that the usual "its not milk!!!!1111!!" screams are about at that.
