I hadn't seen any mention of this statement in this thread yet, maybe Im wrong.

Group responsible for Derry bomb makes statement

The PSNI also believes the New IRA was behind three other hijackings of work vans, including a Royal Mail van and a supermarket delivery vehicle, in the city on January 21st.
“we will continue to strike at Crown forces personnel and their imperial establishment.

“We also caution those who collaborate with the British that they are to desist immediately as no more warnings will be given.”

In the aftermath of the bombing there had been speculation – refuted by the PSNI – that the attack had been motivated by Brexit.

In the statement, the group also denied Brexit was responsible.

“All this talk of Brexit, hard borders, soft borders, has no bearing on our actions and the IRA won’t be going anywhere,” the statement said. “Our fight goes on.”

It appears that Brexit had nothing to do with their motives.

    Do you believe them?

I'd be skeptical, they will want to maintain the impression that they are always active but I think as Brexit/hard border approaches this will ramp up.

At this stage, let them leave with no deal. They will be back scrounging for some sort of a deal pretty quickly. Any hint of a border can be addressed then.

Added to that the Irish American lobby is starting to take a keen interest in the border situation. Should become an issue when looking for a trade deal on that side of the Atlantic as well

despite their apparent show of unity, i think the EU are actually deeply worried. Germany is heading for recession, and has almost halved its' growth forecast.

Coveney looked genuinely scared earlier, and well he might. i recall the EU promising to stand by Ireland, as the IMF were booking their flights to Dublin.

Did you hear two German minsters address that today and the Dutch MEP double down on it?

'The EU would prefer a No deal to reopening Theresa's deal'.

Yet you spin this mystery 'deep worry' and fear with not a link to back it up. :):):)

Only a Brexiter could see continued reiteration of the words "no renegotiation" and think the EU 27 are scared.

do you actually believe everything these EU bureaucrats tell you?
my God you do, don't you!

German growth has halved, Italy is already in recession, France is not too far behind. The UK is about to leave. So who's left? Which economic powerhouses will the EU turn to? Lithuania? Bulgaria? Greece? LOL

The EU is in a very fragile state and is heading for a crash with or without Brexit. The UK will likely flourish in the long term, after a very painful post-Brexit period.
But in reality Brexit is just a sideshow.
Just wait until the ECB has to reintroduce QE. Personally, i think the whole thing will implode. Brexit will merely be the last straw, or the match that lit the fuse.

If you think Juncker and his buddies aren't nervous, then like many other uninformed posters on these boards, you are WRONG!

Nearly half of Britain's exports go to the EU. If he EU slows Britain slows. When Britain has to reinstate regulatory checks, that were done away with by being in the CU & SM, it will truly be the sick man of Northern Europe.

Any back up at all, or did you hear this down the pub or from Sammy?

you do understand don't you (i'm probably making a silly assumption here btw) that when you see Junker the Flunker, or Simple Simon or Leo the Lad, or Treesa the Terrible on tv, that's just window dressing. that's aimed at gullible fools like you. who swallow, and regurgitate it down the pub like it was the word of God, while mutilating The Fields of Athenry.

the REAL negotiations will take place behind the scenes away from the cameras. phone calls will be made over the weekend (if indeed they haven't already), and the main topic of discussion will be ? you guessed it. THE BACKSTOP.

changes, amendments, additions, codicils will be concocted. nothing dramatic. but fudge will be manufactured. all parties will declare victory.
the alternative is to destroy the economies of Britian, Ireland, and possibly lead to the collapse of the EU.

Please! please don't tell me Mamma Merkel & Co. are going to risk that for a few sheep farmers along the border. Surely not even you are that stupid!

I dont think it matters what the new ira say. brexit will give people living there a reason to mistrust the British once more, which will lead to more support of armed resistance. groups like the IRA, provos and now the new ira can only thrive when they have support from their local communities. Brexit will supply this.

If the UK come up with viable alternatives then I am all for it.

But the fools have not been able to convince anyone that their alternatives will work.

Therefore, there will be no deal without a backstop. Simple. And in 2 years they have not been able to fudge, change, amend, add codicils or otherwise.

I don't think it likely over the weekend either.

So it's No Deal (too scared to do that) Theresa's Deal (if she can buy a few more MP's off instead of buying the DUP - then maybe she'll swing it) or Revoke The Whole Sorry Mess (Francie's Tip is this is what will happen)

i hope you are right. it's been a sad & sorry mess, and has sucked the oxygen out of almost everything else.
who knows what nonsense still awaits us?

Even if they pull out of Brexit the continuing break-up of the UK awaits. History will see this as a 20 year ish period. And we are just 7 or 8 years in imo.

As much as I dont want to believe it, I'd be afraid that this will kick off again unfortunately. I have watched a few documentaries on Youtube about dissident republicans to see that there would be enough support to ignite another campaign of violence.

Their statement looks like a threat to the PSNI.

"If" there is a border and "if" the idiots do decide to kick ofd again I'm hopeful that the powers that be will stamp them out with swift and decisive action.

That's never happened and never will. "Stamping them out with swift and decisive action" usually means just rounding up the Catholics and acting brutally in nationalist areas. Hardly a successful British tactic in the past.

There will be much surprise and knashing at teeth at how much support there is, if there is a hard border. Many many people were promised this would not happen.

I can see a massive campaign of civil disobedience to kick it all off. The 'filling in of roads' it was called last time.

i agree the SAS proved much more successful in bringing them to their knees.

A few sudden deaths in the upper echelons of these so called "freedom fighters" would soon have their foot soldiers running back to mammys.

Europe will never allow Ireland and Britain strike a deal on the border because Europe wants Britian to suffer. Brussels is salivating at the thought of a conflagration in the north and will help it on its way if they dont let Ireland and Britain make a deal with the border.
