Google Dr. Sindy Joyce there for yourself scooter and "Get back to me!"

Look it's all too easy to use Dr Joyce as the exception that proves the rule.
The tenuous link Skooter is trying to make between money spent on traveller education and the uploading of Fights, threats and outright criminality to social media is a bit of a stretch.
But on the bright side, you can't ask for more as a prosecutor than a criminal who's "culture" requires that often they create video that incriminates themselves and saves having to call a witness ;)

Very low standard of fight so far. Don’t think a clean box has been landed.

They've called it off as a draw due to inaction.

Rejoicing over the fact that it took to 2018 for a traveller to get their first PhD shows just how useless they are.

Celebrating how thick we are! Hooray for them.

Anyways, any update on how the big fights going?

There is a massive link between mild autism at higher level education in the Physics and computing departments. I see loads of young people still not diagnosed and facilities for them. However what about the citizen traveller?

Where's the fcuking Gardai when this sh1te is happening? Bare knuckle boxing and dog fighting - all these clowns should be off the streets doing time instead of fighting for 200,000 purses. What a fcuking country

Useless stuff. Saw a lad outside Supermacs in athenry one night knock 3 travellers out after they looked at him funny. Real backwoodsman look about him. Like Grizzly Adams. Boxed the heads off them, then picked back up his snackbox and polished it off.

In all fairness would you go near 600 travellers armed to the teeth with slash hooks and baying for blood? If they take out one of their own I am all for it. Its the innocent civillians and public and private property that will suffer

The government needs to organise a Clean up.
Employ 500 heavily armed men to go around cleaning up this filth, they are no good to society anywhere, they wreak havoc everywhere, leave their shyte behind and generally cause a nuisance.

Is there really 600 at it?

If so, burglary figures will take a sharp drop today across the country.

Dont worry the amature independent pharmaceutical salemans league will be playing today. Heroin is a full time occupation.

Collate the data and write a paper?
Use your experience to push for budgetary change?
However given that travellers are if anything under represented in 3rd level institutions I am at a loss to see how money spent on their primary and secondary education has an impact on separate and ring fenced 3rd level budgets?

You seem to be advocating for a reduction in spend on education of a section of society that is already grossly under represented in terms of even basic educational attainment?

Education is the basis that will hopefully raise the standards for all travellers, and show them that "tradition" isn't the be all and all

Nothing screams Ireland like the acceptance and celebration of crime and criminal behaviour.

There is a reason why travellers are under represented at third level, that is because they dont put the work in at the early stages. This work has to be supported and fostered in an environment of education in the home. This is near impossible when 80% of Traveller males have a criminal record by the age of 22. I have been in an educational environment with Travellers. They do not study at the same rate, do homework, they do not have regular attendance or have a clear goal of where they want to go. They drop once they work out they dont fit in. You cant suddenly decide at 30, just like that I am going back to education when you havent put in the work at fundamental stages, like reading to a child before bedtime.

I am advocating sensible spending and "Value For Money" for the tax payer. Spending money on traveller education is akin to trying to teach a horse to bark. Have you even seen the amount of money invested in Traveller education. Have you seen the amount of abuse teachers get from traveller students and pair that with course completion rates.

    Irelands favourite ethnic minority.

Good to see them expressing themselves in such positive terms.

Isn't it heartwarming to see such a sincere expression of their much loved and vaunted culture?

So if one has the misfortune to be born into a traveller family, that's just their tough luck and based on the behaviour of the forebears and peers it's better to throw them on the scrapheap?
Rather than focus resources on early intervention to actually improve their lot in life...

Sounds like you would prefer Eugenics or some other solution

I think what the poster was hinting at is that money is being thrown at traveller education and it's not working.

It doesn't matter how much you spend on schools, equipment, teachers, SNAs etc if the parents don't want to better their kids lives.

    Simple as that.

Coddling their "way of life" is just a sinkhole money wise, you can see settled travellers doing well and becoming productive members of society. maybe there should have been a program to enforce settlement a few decades back, when it wouldn't have been seen as a nazi germany move by the reactionary left (and no, making people live in houses instead of caravans and and halting sites is not literally nazi germany), but that's spilt milk under the bridge now, and we're pretty much stuck with them as they are I think.

That approach of the investing early in traveller education has paid dividends. I think the best part of a childs education has been decided by the age of 7. By the age of 14 the child becomes an adolescent and they are already descent to either be a contributing member of society or not.

Well yeah a lot of that is genetics, same as being an addict or a predisposition to anything else. What about value for money for the taxpayer? Do you realise the Roman empire stretched from Spain to Ukraine and every citizen had only to pay 2 days wages a year to maintain the empire. Look how much we are paying in tax and how much resources they consume.

I never said "Eugenics", I am sure studying genetics they have a part to play, but I am seriously struggling to see their part in the human race.

I dunno about that, I know it's only anecdotal, but I know travellers and settled travellers who's parents/grandparents grew up together and some are related, and it's night and day of a difference, also it was proven that travellers are genetically identical to regular Irish, which is why their ethnic minority status is one of the dumbest things ever put forward by this state.

I think what the poster means is better borne out in their subsequent posts and their reply to my question.
