    It doesn't really matter how often or how you behave with drink. The fact of the matter is your drinking is causing problems.

    This hits it perfectly on the head I think.

    We often get caught up in complex debates about what defines an alcoholic or problematic drinking, but to me the definition is quite straightforward. If a person continues to drink even though there is clear evidence that drinking is causing problems in their life (be it health, relationship, work, etc.), then that's sounding the alarm bell.

    This could be case for someone drinking relatively small amounts added up over a week, etc, but might not be the case for someone drinking far more.
