Normal light bulbs.

    Is there anywhere in Ireland where i can buy normal non energy saving indoor light bulbs like the ones they had years and years ago,60watt,100watt.
    Only place i have seen them in the last few years was in aldi once,where they were selling them as shed lights or something.
    I want real light bulbs in my home,not these crap expensive energy saving light bulbs.

    Your local electrical wholesalers should have”rough service” light bulbs that will do the job you require

    The price of whale oil is crazy these days. Impossible to get as well. The only fella in Dublin who has a regular supply is Mr Yamamoto. How do they expect us to light our houses? Paraffin?! That stuff is pure shyte.

    I was going to say Aldi also. I think they were a weekly special buy. I'm not sure about Tesco but all I've seen there are expensive bulbs.
    You might get lucky with a pound shop.

    What’s the manufacturer of these incandescent bulbs? Not that I want one.

    Solus doesn’t produce them any more, for instance.

    You can get 2 adapters for €1.50 in IKEA if you see the light and decide to convert to those new-fangled LED bulbs.

    Years ago when the energy saving lights started I wrote the date on them when putting them in, and yes, they do give the kind of timespan they suggest - 8 years I got out of one on a landing that would have been on all night, every night.

    When I lived in Dublin I used to buy them in the hardware shop in Fitzmaurice Road, I think the shop is called Glasnevin Hardware. They are called 'Rough Service' bulbs.

    By the way OP if you do get lucky with getting them. I'd recommend you stock up on them. I get not everybody likes the light off the energy efficient bulbs!

    It you buy smart lights you can have anything from the weak 40W incandescent to the worst fluorescent glare you want.

    Plenty of incandescent bulbs up to 200w in EEC Hardware in Balbriggan

    Modern LED bulbs are just as good as incandescent but the energy saver bulbs are terrible.

    OP you realise that what you describe as "normal" light bulbs are not the nomal of today.

    I would understand if you were requesting this 15 years ago when they light they gave off was poor and they took longer to reach full brightness but the LED bulbs today are good and so much more energy efficient than the older ones.

    You should consider doing the opposite and go ultramodern and get smart lighting and then you can adjust the bulbs to the colour and warmth that you like as I do think colour warmth is what your issue is.

    The initial outlay will be more than offset by the electricity costs savings and bulb replacement savings compared to buying the older "abnormal" bulbs.

    No, candles are great. But I do have to switch on the electric for a minute if I am lighting them at night.

    If you are pining for the olden days and want to go back in time you could move to the Britain. Some people believe that it will be sent back to the Middle Ages once they leave the European Union.

    Alternatively you could move to Donegal. They are looking for people with old fashioned values to prevent the genocide. Loads of cheap property there too.

    Talking of LEDs, anybody happy with the new streetlights in Dublin? Seems like a very cold white colour to me.

    I bought a load of old fashioned bayonet non energy saving bulbs in Pete's of Parnell st last time I was in.
