That’s not fair. You cannot say that people don’t care about the deceased because they’re travellers. What happened was horrific, but there is no sense at all playing the blame game. It was a horrible accident, that could have happened in any one of our homes. Chip pans are unfortunately not safe to use. But hindsight is a wonderful thing.

The purpose of Fire Safety regulations as laid down by law, is to prevent such accidents, and make no mistake about it, all public housing temporary or otherwise come under that law. Your home is not the same as a fibreglass caravan . Save your crocodile tears, honey!

Are you claiming a chip pan fire wouldn't have any effect in a "conventional house" ?

I even gave an example in the post you quoted from :

    Goldengirl wrote: »
So those guys ok according to you..only brought down a country.
This petty criminal is ripped apart on this sxxt forum for 9 months , and today we heard about whole families with small children being burnt to death and no one in DLRCC accountable. And this crowd here just carry on about Margaret Cash.

    Goldengirl wrote: »

    no one in DLRCC accountable.

Do they come around and make chips now ?

    It's always someone else.

The coroner for South Cork, Frank O’Connell, was speaking after returning verdicts of accidental death in relation to the deaths of Noel O’Mahony, in his sixties, and Kenny Relihan, in his twenties, following a house fire at 47 St Colman’s Park, Macroom, Co Cork, in the early hours of May 2, 2016.

He said it was the fourth fatal house fire case in five years in the south Cork area alone where people had died in fires caused by the pans.

“These old-fashioned chip pans are beyond their sell-by date and people should dump them,” said Mr O’Connell.

Of course you just quoted the centre bit of that, knowing well it wasn't intended as funny :

Yeah , funny. Those children are dead, axxxxle .
The chip pan started the fire but the fact that the caravans were squished into a small site with inadequate fire safeguards is against regulations. But they got away with that by saying it was an emergency site . The fire hose and hydrant didn't have any water pressure. It is wrong to house families with children on sites like that at all never mind excuse it once they've all been burnt to death.
If you tried to build an attic conversion without attention to fire safety regulations in DLRCC I bet they would pull the plug pretty fast. But hey it's ok because they were only travellers?

It's not going to bring them back and it's not a blame game, it's disgusting what you are trying to do though

The DLRCC didn't come around, smoke weed, get drunk and leave a chip pan on a hotplate set to maximum.

Jim Connors Jr said : "Thomas was smoking his weed. All the adults were drinking in the kitchen. It was 2am when I was leaving and we were all drunk."

If you were living in a terraced house ( like many many people ) and your house went on fire, you wouldn't put your child into the house next door

    And that's what happened :

    https://www.irishmirror.ie/news/irish-news/tragic-carrickmines-baby-saved-initial-13862286

But hindsight is a wonderful thing

The inquest heard there were four fire extinguishers located around the site. All four were in working order but none had been used.

    They were caravans though.

They didn't keep them safe themselves of course it's sad so many perished but it's nobody else's fault.

Chip pan, deep fat fryers and anything electrical are dangerous.

If they had of had bought themselves smoke alarms and carbon monoxide alarms maybe they would have gotten out.

They were also provided with fire extinguishers which they didn't use any of them that were provided.

It's nearly like you want them to be baby sat but they are grown adults but maybe you are on to something there as their childish behaviour is something else.

They in most cases are an embarrassment to this country and its people.

    Grow up.

There were ads on television in the 80's telling everyone that chip pans were bad news. I don't know anyone who uses them. Some responsibility for yourself and your family has to be taken sometime.

Outside of the fire danger, I don't know anyone who uses chip pans anymore because of the health implications (not to mention the fact that you'd smell like a chip shop after it).

You're the mod of this thread, are you? So it's ok to allow this nasty diatribe go on for weeks on end? What do you think, it's free speech? Its hate speech , and anti traveller, and anyone who believes in spreading this muck deserves to be reported and fined. You are not doing any job here as far as I can see because this thread is totally rampant with all the usual right wing suspects and they are saying and bullying away there with impunity. What do ye want here on Boards, notoriety , like Breitbart News? You guys need to talk to whoever is setting the rules because there is no dignity or respect for anyone displayed by a good few of the posters here. A d isn't that meant to be central to this site?
On a day when the inquest of those Carrickmines families has been in the news to have an ongoing thread like this! You all should be ashamed of yourselves :!

These also in the news in recent days.

They're definitely not a good thing to use when you're drunk or high on illegal substances.
Mr Connors was in the kitchen of Thomas and Sylvia Connors’ portacabin on the night of the fire, which broke out around 4.30am.

Mr Connors said in his statement: “The children went to bed at 8pm. Thomas was smoking his weed. All the adults were drinking in the kitchen. It was a good time, not a word of an argument. It was 2am when I was leaving and we were all drunk.”
    link

It can't be easy for councils to find suitable sites for these families when there's a veto on them from other families.
The council had originally planned to relocate the Connors family from a Sandyford site to one in Rathmichael over a decade ago but a family that had been living there opposed the move.

    Always somebody else to blame.

I'm surprised that he admitted that the guy was high - we're always hearing claims that travellers are anti-drugs.

Yeah, the religion thing always makes me laugh - the choir in Rathkeale actually walked out due to travellers disrupting mass and dressing like hookers - and the travellers responded that they were "better catholics" than the settled people!

    Anti drugs?

They are massive drug dealers. I know of them giving heroin to addicts to keep them hooked.

Yeah, I'm well aware of it - there is a halting site in my local town that is notorious for drug dealing, however the travellers are always claiming that they don't do drugs themselves - one of the many hyprocrisies they ascribe to.

I'm absolutely no fan of travellers (the nicest way I can put it).

Wouldn't give a flying fig if they all dropped dead in the morning (A more accurate way of putting it).

But fair is fair, the woman got a Doctorate and no matter what it is in, they aren't easy to achieve.

    Fair fcuks to her.

Now, back to my normal anti-traveller stance.

Actually, the fact that a population of around 40,000 people is, in the year 2019, celebrating the first PhD in its history only illustrates the complete disregard that most Travellers have for education. Only 8% of Travellers complete the Leaving Cert, and just 1% have a third-level qualification. Most Travellers have extremely high rates of illiteracy as well an unemployment rate of 80%.

I'm happy for Ms Joyce that she has achieved a PhD, but l don't see hordes of Travellers following in her footsteps. A Traveller is far more likely to wind up in jail than in university.

That's the official figure according to the 2016 census.

But they also found that only 12.6 percent of male Travellers and 10.1 percent of female Travellers were actually working. There were more male Travellers on disability (13.6 percent) than there were working.

Schemes - I've a friend in the DEASP and she told me that every traveller she's aware of that is classed as "working" is either involved in some traveller project (where they usually don't turn up but get paid anyway) or has signed up to some dole scheme to avoid a jail sentence.

    You mean her forever home?
No but apparently she is moving from a B&B to a hub for homeless families.
The hubs I've looked up look nice with good facilities and much more suited to a family than a B&B. But it will cost her €37 a week so she's not happy!

No she hasn't but she is at a loss as to why that is

Was going to be moved to a hub but that's not good enough for Margaret

"SO the Council want to take me outta a b+b in Drumcondra and put me in a hub somewer round the south side. I really hate the b+b wer i am because wer travelling from drumcondra to Tallaght and bk every day for school. BUT A HUB like really? Im nearly 12 yrs on the houseing list and 2 yrs homeless. Ive done everyting they asked me i even SHUT UP 4 dem. They told me i wud be HOUSED IN JAN but den they rang yesterday telling me der trying to move me. I was ova the moon untill the lady on the phone told me its a HUB. I WANT A HOME NOT A HUB OR A B+B. Is dis ever gonna end? R we ever gonna get a HOME?"

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 14,980 ✭✭✭✭tuxy

Has she turned down the hub? She seems to be in a better position than many if she can turn down options like this that would make her life more comfortable.

I'd love to tell her that she'll get a home when she gets up off her hole and works for one. But sadly that won't be the case.

Check out the Irish Times today - writing more dribble!!

The Maguires, who are Travellers, have been on the council’s housing list for 10 years.

"They (the council) said they were in a position to offer us a four-bedroom house, in the location we wanted, before the end of the year,”

“We’re just sick of what they are doing to our family,” says William. “It’s a lot of stress. They just won’t give us a straight answer. It’s pulling us all apart.”

Imagine - the stress of taking your kids to school and having to lay around all day - 10 years on a waiting list and no sight of a job???

They have even approached Mercy Law, a not-for-profit legal firm specialising in housing rights, to act for them.
