Only 8% of Travellers complete the Leaving Cert, and just 1% have a third-level qualification. Most Travellers have extremely high rates of illiteracy as well an unemployment rate of 80%. I'm happy for Ms Joyce that she has achieved a PhD, but l don't see hordes of Travellers following in her footsteps. A Traveller is far more likely to wind up in jail than in university.

Mr Connors was in the kitchen of Thomas and Sylvia Connors’ portacabin on the night of the fire, which broke out around 4.30am. Mr Connors said in his statement: “The children went to bed at 8pm. Thomas was smoking his weed. All the adults were drinking in the kitchen. It was a good time, not a word of an argument. It was 2am when I was leaving and we were all drunk.”
The council had originally planned to relocate the Connors family from a Sandyford site to one in Rathmichael over a decade ago but a family that had been living there opposed the move.

You are not doing any job here as far as I can see because this thread is totally rampant with all the usual right wing suspects and they are saying and bullying away there with impunity. What do ye want here on Boards, notoriety , like Breitbart News? You guys need to talk to whoever is setting the rules because there is no dignity or respect for anyone displayed by a good few of the posters here. A d isn't that meant to be central to this site? On a day when the inquest of those Carrickmines families has been in the news to have an ongoing thread like this! You all should be ashamed of yourselves :!

gctst50 The DLRCC didn't come around, smoke weed, get drunk and leave a chip pan on a hotplate set to maximum. Jim Connors Jr said : "Thomas was smoking his weed. All the adults were drinking in the kitchen. It was 2am when I was leaving and we were all drunk."

The purpose of Fire Safety regulations as laid down by law, is to prevent such accidents, and make no mistake about it, all public housing temporary or otherwise come under that law. Your home is not the same as a fibreglass caravan . Save your crocodile tears, honey!

The chip pan started the fire but the fact that the caravans were squished into a small site with inadequate fire safeguards is against regulations. It is wrong to house families with children on sites like that at all never mind excuse it once they've all been burnt to death. If you tried to build an attic conversion without attention to fire safety regulations in DLRCC I bet they would pull the plug pretty fast. But hey it's ok because they were only travellers?
