We are still without internet and our phone line is also not working properly.  I've tried 3 times to get through to Eir via phone, and trying now for a 5th time, and again they have just hung up.  Loosing the will at this stage.

I tried to use the easy fix on 192.168.254, but it won't work, I just get a message saying connection error no internet connect, check cable.

I need to have access to my work emails in the evening, and also, our TV works off internet.

This is what is lighting up on the modem.

Try using a wired connection to allow you to change the DNS settings, as mentioned earlier.
Im sorry, I don't even know how to do that  :-( :-(  I'm not technically minded lol.

It sounds like you are suffering from more than a broken DNS.

Ping a known working address (eg 8.8.8.8) - if all packets are lost then your connection is down. If all packets are received then your connection is up.

(from PC type ping 8.8.8.8 in a command prompt window. Your modem should also have a ping utility under Maintain > Tools)

A DNS change will only help in the latter - most people suffering issues over the weekend had a connection which was up, but a broken default DNS so it appeared down to the untrained eye.

If your connection is down I would try rebooting the modem. If you have messed around with settings during troubleshoot - ie if it's possible you have misconfigured it - I would also consider a factory restore (Maintain > Device Mgmt).

Failing that it's like an issue only Eir can resolve.

Yeah i mean like, some people are still without internet since Saturday afternoon. When people ring up to complain, no one answers the phone.I'd say that you wouldn't be posting that, if you were still one of the unlucky few without a service, and had to put up with customer service like that.:)
I’m still without and it does not bother me at all, I know I can fix it but just not bothered.  I might get rid of it all together now as I can honestly say I didn’t miss it.
And how can you manage to post on here without internet.

Thank you for your help.  After 2 hours of calls, fb messages and webchat, I finally got to deal with an Eir representative, who is organising a technician to call out to fix the phone and broadband lines.

    I rang EIR this morning.
Waiting time 10mins for cancellations.  I got through after 25mins.  The person i spoke to then put me on hold to check with there manager.  On 43 mins i hung up.
This is crazy.  im a customer 1 week and still on cooling off period.  im getting away from these cowboys.
i would recommend not becoming a customer with EIR.

No worries iceage , happy to help. BTW there is no real downside to using an alternative DNS and in some cases it can even slightly speedup browsing but generally the difference is fractions of a second. I guess the only thing is how much do you trust that company. I'm happy enough to recommend Google as they know everything already :P

That depends on if their internet is complacently down by coincidence and it's unrelated to this topic.

The DNS should be back for everyone at this stage but perhaps some limited areas are still experiencing problems.

In this case I would recommend power cycling the router. I have a few other things that can be checked if that does resolve it.
    For me, its still problems.

We can access internet with the Google DNS. Not with the eir one. And for whatever reason our old PC, which is directly connected to the router is unabled to connect at all.

I've a Virgin box for TV. I take it switching to them would be fairly painless.
Old PC finally seems to be working this evening (I'm typing this on it). Then again, the router is still set to 8.8.8.8.

But it has been a painful experience, and damaging to confidence in the reliability and support for the system.

Without labouring the point, internet is a really crucial service at this stage. I'm not sure eir have shown an understanding of their customers in this instance.

Would just like to add, for the last several months I was finding the internet on the pc and fire TV was intermittently dropping several times a night, I was blaming the homeplugs .since changing the DNS last week to the cloud flare one I haven't had a single dropout on the pc or the fire TV.

Whatever went wrong on eirs side must of been failing for quite a while

Has this been resolved and can we (or more importantly, should we) change the DNS settings back? If I reboot the router, will the current settings remain or will they revert to the "old" ones (i.e. the Eir default setting)?

You need to factory reset or login to change back. I'm not with Eir so can't comment on whether it's fixed

55 euro month for what I'm getting is a pure joke. I'm seriously getting sick of of it now. Customer service is pathetic, don't know how they get away with it. Daylight robbery. Will be leaving Eir this week. Who ever I get next cannot be any worse.

Recently moved to 3 on prepay after only 14 days with eir, miles better so far(customer service and coverage)

    Again? wow!

Guys there are details in this thread on how to change the DNS on most routers, switch to either google or cloudflare and leave it at that as Eir are too incompetent to run a DNS.

For the F2000 here's a post I made last week.

    https://www.boards.ie/ttfpost/108354894

Use 8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4 if you want to use google.
And 1.1.1.1 and 1.0.0.1 if you want to use cloudflare.
There are many other alternatives as well that can run DNS with 99.9% uptime

I'd recommend everyone just leave it on whatever alternative DNS they want to use even if Eir say the problem is solved.

    Hi Lads,

My "problem" is I recently joined to eir broadband, wired connection seems to work well as well as the 5 GHz wireless connection ,but I have a laptop with only 2.4 GHz capability and the download speed is not as good as used to be with the previous company. When the download starts its starting with the expected speed 50-60 MB/s but then after a couple of seconds drops down to 8-15-20-5-9 and so on just about a week or two ago with the previous company everything was working well and the 5 GHz works well with my mobile phone, very strange.I tried to play with the channels 1-13 in the wireless setting in the f2000 modem setting ,but no luck some of the channels seems to have a better download speed then the others but non of them have the 50-60 MB like with the other company but the 5 GHz has.

Does any of you know how to solve this issue?
thanks in advance and happy holidays for all of you...
