Playstation 2 component cable for best picture quality

    I decided to hook up my PS2 Slim and start collecting for it. After doing some research I found component was the way to go for best picture quality. I am using a 9yr old TV which cost me €1700. I seem to have scan lines or something similar. After disabling Game Mode on my TV settings this was reduced but still present. Reducing the sharpness on my TV all the way down to zero made them disappear but overall picture quality is reduced by a lot.

    Just wondering might it be the quality of cable I bought or is it my TV? Something to note is my TV does not have direct component input as you can see in the picture. Would be a waste of time to get a refund on the cable and find it they were not at fault.

    If your TV doesn't have component then you are probably only getting ****ty composite.

    The system its self does not generate scanlines, The PS2 displays most games interlaced(what is called fields) with is a sort of half the frame before and half the frame after in horizontal lines across your screen which on old CRT TVs would display a really smooth frame rate scroll, if your TV is either stretching the image so that the frames are not correctly displayed or the TV is progressive(one full frame) only, if so then it is not interpreting these frames correctly and is only showing either the before frame or the after frame, your best bet is to change the display settings on the PS2 boot menu or look up your model online and see if there is a setting in the TV itself, something like de-interlace options/field options or progressive scan.

    What's happening there is you are putting all the separate colour channels through one line and you get intereference like you get on composite and it's ends up looking bad.

    Maybe try rgb scart instead as the set up you currently have pretty much negates any benefit component gives.

    I am defiantly getting fantastic results with the component compared to composite. Is scart not far superior compared to component?

    The one line theory makes sense. Would be great to have official PS2/PS3 component to confirm.
