Horrendous assault in Lucan

When they started to run out of forever homes in Ballyfermot, Neilstown, Clondalkin etc they shoved them out to Lucan. Add a bit of Diversity to the mix and you have a sinkhole.

When they decided to sell up their council homes so they could make quick money off developers friends they moved them all out to Tallaght. Been doing so and expanding on that since the 70's and 80's.

    Sorry, different 'they'.
Dismantle neighbourhoods. Stick a bunch of families on low/no income in one big lump out somewhere with little transport and amenities and shock horror...it doesn't turn out well.

What? Let me just add I've lived in Lucan for over 10 years and would say it's got worse, but to describe it as a no go area is a complete exaggeration..

Mein gott! I'm lucky to have made it back from my brother's post-Christmas steak night in one piece by the sounds of things!

Lucan of old is decent enough. The housing estates built in the last 15 years are horrendous kips. Rows of soulless cheap houses full of undesirables.

There are still a lot of good people, mostly are, in the new part of Lucan, that said, the rot seems to have spread westwards across New Lucan, I recal even when Foxborough was ok, mostly when it was new home owners, and Grifeen was quite nice, now Grifeen can be a bit dodgy and around the park, even older established parts of Clondalkin are nicer.
Im not sure its any better in any other areas such as Leixlip, Maynooth or Celdbridge in housing estates. The thing is, I consider the primary schools to be great in the Lucan area, 3 educate togethers in that area, but it doesnt matter how good things are, there will always be scum, I think its the outcome of having policies that have led to it being a requirement to necessitate both parents working all hours to buy a home and now ultimately to rent one, meaning kids are left to run riot, many have no chance, but they should be made answerable for their choices.

    Another assault

I'm not even going to bother posting links of the poor young girl that was murdered by a 13 year old.

Is there something in the water out there that causes the young to lose the run of themselves?

Sad to see a few bad eggs terrorising the neighbourhood. Hopefully 18 years from the 1st of January 2018 there will be less of this behaviour.

looking out the front door right now as we speak. all quiet on the western front Sah!

You must not leave your house much if Lucan is a "no-go area"

I live in Limerick between 10 and 15 years ago and am currently living in Lucan. This nonexistant trouble seems to keep following me. Or maybe I'm causing this nonexistant trouble?

You must have picked up a fair few stab wounds in that time. I understand most people in Limerick have been stabbed to death at least once. Lucan can't be far off at this stage.

The murder was not in Lucan and wasn't by anyone from Lucan.

Lived in Lucan over 10 years and never a issue.

Over 50,000 people your bound to hear a few stories.

I have a personal connection to the property. It is Lucan. Always was always will be.

I'm always amazed at people who recently moved into Lucan arbitrarily deciding what is and isn't Lucan and talking about "old Lucan". My family have roots in Lucan going back several hundred years. Coldblow is Lucan and Lucan stretches much further than that to Allenswood. Balgaddy, with the exception of Foxdene, was always Lucan. Adamstown was always Lucan. Check out some historical maps.

Read about that on the paper today. Shocking. I always thought Lucan had a decent enough reputation. Obviously it's gone downhill very quickly over the last few years

A lot of that is friendly stabbin though. Outsiders not used to it tend to take it more seriously than is intended.

Looks like Lucan is the new Coolock. Anything bad happening within about 4 kms will be described as being in Lucan. Anything good is probably Leixlip.

I was in Limerick for a few days and I wasn't stabbed once. Is it me? Is it some signal I'm giving off? I can take it.

Well plenty of "Lucan people" were housed in Neilstown originally, my family included. They have extended family in Lucan going back generations and yes, some of the next generation are now being housed in Lucan again since it has been built up. Many of those causing trouble now have long term connection to Lucan.

The kids we used to get into our second level school from Educate Together were always fantastic kids, with parents seriously interested and involved in their education, which put them way ahead of the others.

I've heard different from other teachers, that they were behind on most of the stuff. But maybe it depends on the individual school.

20 years ago lucan was a sleepy place. In the last 5 or 6 years it has turned into a cesspit of crime, due in part to its distance from any meaningful amenities and also it has continued to grow hugely, merging with areas that have always been dumps.

Balgaddy may have a Lucan postcode, however like its surrounding areas is very much Clondalkin.

According to who?? The Bush of Balgaddy was the traditional boundary. It stood where the old Goodwin's shop was - now site of the application for the new mosque. Just opposite the FAI building. Look it up.

They should stop trying to eat their school books and read them instead. They'll only end up selling drugs or being murdered.

There's a huge racial mix in Lucan, lots of Africans especially around Griffeen Avenue on the Ronanstown side where the gang of 50 attacked the teens recently. I used to see African kids/teens shadow boxing as they walked to school. Tonnes of taxi drivers live there as it has easy access to the city centre.
But there's a high percentage of rented housing and social housing there too, where the occupants will never be as community focused as those who own houses there.

Glad I sold up a few years ago, I was there for 11 years.
Didn't want my kids to grow up in that environment.

African gangs are the big elephant in the room in an increasing number of areas, there seems to operate in much larger numbers than traditional 'youths' and as attacks on portmarnock and malahide have shown, they're getting very organised and brazen.

A cesspit of crime ? You are joking.
What sort of meaningful amenities is it lacking ?

The 25a/b goes through most of the estates in "New" Lucan, ie. The south of the n4. You would be unfortunate.if you were more than 15 mins walk from any bus stop. Also served by night links.

It's 16 km to the city centre .
It's surrounded by open spaces , lots of soccer teams , GAA clubs , athlettics clubs ,fishing and canoeing on the river and canal.
Couple of nice pubs around the village .

      Nothing really.

Limerick had gang warfare , Lucan has a bunch of feral teens running wild , bit of a difference.

Having a laugh? Lucan has fantastic facilities. Off the top of my head, they have Liffey valley for cinema, shopping and all that good stuff within spitting distance. In terms of sports you have GAA sports, football, athletics, hockey and water sports of all sorts in clubs along the liffey. The city centre is a short hop away on the bus. It's one of the better spots when it comes to amenities.

There was a post on Lucan Parents group in the past few hours where a resident, earlier today, witnessed teenagers in school uniform smoking weed at a public place and then getting into a car and driving (under the influence). The OP was trying to identify the school uniforms (no faces posted in the picture) so as to notify the schools and also Gardai. The OP was lambasted and laughed at by the majority on the post for ‘not minding their own business’ and for ‘being in the wrong for taking photos of minors’. Comments such as ‘it’s only a bit of weed’ and ‘they could be at worse’. This to me says a lot about the local problems, assuming these commenters on the post were parents given it’s a parents page...a number of parents couldn’t give a toss where their kids are, what they’re doing or how they’re behaving. And then excuse an offence such as driving under the influence of a drug and then think it was a worse offence for someone to take a picture of them committing the offence! Where is the sanity in that! How are the kids gonna have any better attitude if their parents think like this!

Also agree there’s lots for kids to do in the area. In lots of other parts of Ireland there is next to nothing facilities-wise and people don’t get beaten up just for something to do!
