It was closer to 20 years ago that it was popular. More than 20 years actually as it was our shot of choice in college.

I think jäger bombs killed it off.

I still see the bottles of it on the bar shelves
It's true you don't see people ordering it now though. used to be the business in college as well as Chartreuse. Can't get chartreuse anywhere now though

I remember my dried up oul Irish teacher in sixth year, who was an authority on everything, explaining to us that the young people were drinking to extremes - not only would they do a shot on a night out, but they'd then follow it up with an 'After Shot'.

Standard Sat night back in the day, blue n red aftershock mixed together to wash down a couple of bangers and next thing i know it was Tuesday...

God I miss those days...Sunday and Monday!

Worked in a bar for years and the owner refused to stock it as it would “attract the wrong crowd” (Whether young folk or rough folk)

I’d imagine many others thought the same

what were those shots that came in little plastic shot glasses, that you could stack?

God I hated Aftershock. Whatever happened to Goldschlager, that used to be the shot of choice during the Celtic Tiger years.

It was still popular when I was 18 around 2009. But haven't gotten one in years. I see it on the shelf but never seen anyone order it in a long time.

The go to shots are Jaeger and sambuca now. At least in my social group.

Absinthe was very popular when I lived in Edinburgh in the late 90's

That stuff was potent and similar to shrooms, I seen some odd things when binging that stuff.

Myself and a mate finished a bottle of red aftershock between us after a good feed of drink beforehand. Never had a hangover like it. I could still taste it 2 days later.

Vile stuff. Only a couple of places sold it in Dublin. Tried it once as a shot - never again. 70% IIRC and tasted like it. Definitely just for cocktails

Was definitely fond of the AfterShock though. Can almost get the aftertaste now 20 years later as I type.

Geoff’s in Waterford still sells chartreuse as does Tully’s in Carlow.

I felt like I was shot after it.

I lived in Newington Edinburgh, across the road was a disco bar, called south side steamys.

You could only get it from one barman, so if you ordered it you'd only get the one.

So I'd have one there before I'd leave.
Then I'd chase the dragon all the way to princess street . Stop off at the odd pub, which serves it.

Drinking it was like drinking syrup, it was so thick.

Supposedly the plant has medicinal properties lol hallucinagenic.... for sure

Yes, and blue WKD. Jaysus that was foul stuff.

I remember they were trying to promote jägermeister in a local pub back when aftershock was popular. They were giving away free shots in plastic test tubes. People were trying it and spitting it out, smelling it and refusing to drink it. The girl literally couldn’t give it away after a while. Funny how the roles have reversed now :pac:

I actually thought they were quite tasty :)
