    Different people like different gfv.
To keep payments low and take your chances at end of term, you want high gfv.
To ensure you will have deposit next time round, and have a realistic kind of pricing, you should be looking at low gfv.
A low gfv offered versus the competition might suggest that the finance house have not great faith in the resale.
Vw deals in general seem to be producing near 20 percent deposit at end of term when all contributions etc are thrown in so they h ave it about right I feel.
If you wanted to lower the gfv so that less is owed at end, you could take out a higher mileage allowance on your Pcp.
All they do is lower the gfv in that case making payments higher and less owed at end to account for the higher mileage car. Saying that, you would be better going with standard gfv and saving a few quid per month giving you some options in the end.
Good advice, and very useful to know! Thanks

I take it the blue ones all M-Sports and the white is Sport? Slight difference in the front bumper of the white one compared to the 2 blue ones.

Optional LSD on non M models is a step in the right direction. Think that's been reserved for the M cars only since the E46, maybe even the E36. I know it'll be expensive and a rare option but it's the thought that counts. Looks like a great machine.

Yeah I'm liking the look. I know it's evolutionary but there is enough difference (especially the interior) to make it noticeable over the F30. Similar dimensions to the E39 5 Series too.

Will be interesting to see what standard equipment is like on them but I think starting prices are from 43k with the M Sport starting at around 49k, before you start ticking the options list though.

I wonder what the hybrid pricing is like on it.

    330e coming June 2019 apparently.
Apparently has an overboost function giving an extra 40plus hp bringing it to over 290bhp.
    Promising more all electric range.

There was talk last year of a 320e or 325e with lesser power than the 330e but I've read nothing now about such a model being added to the range.

I'm glad too because as is the way with these things, I'm sure we would find 320e creeping up in price to where 330e was and the new 330e then being marketed as the performance version at silly money.

I think it's inevitable that your going to get different state of tune or drive train versions of plug in hybrids/EVs in a model range as they get more popular. The same way when diesels became popular you a 320d to then you got a 318d and finally a 316d. Toyota have started doing the same with their new generation of hybrids with offering more powerful drive trains for those who don't want the standard vanilla option.

Leaning towards a 190bhp Arteon now, the petrol would have been perfect but doesn't seem to be listed anymore  so tdi would be the only option unfortunately, in 190. The 1.5 150bhp petrol is probably a bit lacking for this kind of car.

Looking at 1 year old arteons on carzone they seem to be still priced pretty strong. Taking discounts etc on original purchase price I don't think they depreciate too badly at all, certainly not compared to bmw or volvo.

I just specced up a 190 tdi dsg r line Arteon on the configurator.
Adding metallic and the technology pack ,it's 52.5k on the road after delivery.
That seems like crazy money to me. Are the VW dealers offering a lot of discount off retail or very high trade in value for your passat?

I'd take a g30 se on 16 inch wheels over one.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 51,609 ✭✭✭✭bazz26

52.5k must be very close to A5 Sportback money. You might not get the same spec or discount though.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 23,918 ✭✭✭✭mickdw

It's a matter of preference but I think the arteon r line is a far more impressive looking car than the A5 sportback.
    52k to too much though.

I'm getting much better trade-in(or discount or whatever) quotes on the Passat with VW, Audi isn't too far off (they are related of course), but A6 or loaded A4 is expensive. Volvo and BMW are at least 25% less on the trade in. I've just started shopping around though.

There is also a 1500 "contribution" at the moment from VW themselves. 1.9% APR at the moment also makes a difference - about a 100 euro a month or more difference in payments.
    https://www.volkswagen.ie/en/offers-and-finance/offers/new-car-deals.html

So, initially yes, VW are better, - 4 or 5K off that for trade in value for me, but not good enough, - yet at least. We'll see the difference soon, - I won't be buying unless there is a significant discount that is for sure. It would need to come down to close to mid forties, - let's see

One thing I would say about the Arteon at that price though, is that the spec really is loaded, I wouldn't want for much anyway.

The Passat is getting a mid life facelift mid 2019 so that might explain the more favorable offer at the moment.

I remember as a kid in the seventies and early eighties, my dad drove a succession of fiats. Mirafiori and “super” mirafiori’s. Initially because he liked them but in the end because some dealers wouldn’t take one as a trade in or offered very poor trade ins compared to fiat.
In the end he bit the bullet, took a hit and moved to another brand.
This is a bit like what VW are doing by giving you a better trade in and deposit contribution. It keeps you in their brand and gives you an incentive to stay.
All great as long as you are happy with their product.
I think the arteon is a nice car and while on the surface it seems over priced if in reality it is a better value ownership prospect for you then it makes sense.
Personally I think I would have a go at selling privately and bringing in a second hand 5 series and get out of the pcp loop.

Any opinions good or bad on the BMW G12? Some good value in 2017 730D’s right now.

They'll get even cheaper once the LCI comes out in the next few months. I like the look of them a lot.

    A lot of them around.
Everyone drives a 5 series now so 7 series appears to be the car that 5 series used to be.

Likely pulling the trigger on one in the next 8 weeks. Still anxiously waiting on the PCP petrols to start coming back in after their 3 years are up this month, in the last 6 months i've seen no more than 10 petrols come up for sale in the whole of the UK, quite remarkable.

Will be aiming for the £30-£35k mark in either a 740Le, 740Li or 750i/Li. Plenty of choice in the diesels, but not for me.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 51,609 ✭✭✭✭bazz26

They depreciate more than a similar 5 Series and standard spec is better too so I can see the attraction. Wouldn't be for me though, I find them too big for my needs. Parking a 5er in a multistory car park these days is tricky enough.

VW website giving 0% PCP at present on some of the Highline models.

Yep have been oogling them too. But the F01 isn't much of a step up from my E66 so i'm skipping it altogether.

Mine (for this week anyway!!)... it's seriously nice. Would probably get me out of a 5 series if I was spending that kind of money!

My car has half leather, half alcantara. Its quite nice to be honest.

On the other hand, that A6 is stunning. I look forward to life in about 8-10 years

I'm still in two minds as to whether I like the two screen layout in that A6. Looks good and all in pictures, but I am old fashioned and I like my twisty knobs and buttons!
