United would beat Porto and Dortmund I'd say(like Dortmund but they have a lot of young players and bar the Klopp CL final run have been quite naive in knockouts). Bayern and Real not the juggernauts they have been in years gone by but they'd probably still beat United. Can't get Juve or Man City. PSG is worst case scenario imo, they would tear United to shreds.

To be honest it could go either way United have shown this season they can't beat the poorest teams in the premier league but they have similar shown they can beat the favourites for champions league.

Obviously I'd want to avoid bog teams yes but I'd be wary of United getting Porto and it turning into another Seville result as I would be wary of them getting barca, psg,Bayeren.

I don't think you can predict how United will perform in any game, against anyone. We could go out vs Liverpool and give them a real game this weekend, or they could tonk us. We could be 'as we'd hope' vs Fulham and 3-0 up at half time or play slow, stand off football and struggle, Palace.

We could give anyone a game, or get tonked by anyone whose application level rises above 'jogging'. A maddening side.

    Totally agree with this.

I'm same won't be surprised if we won it 2-1 or got stuffed 4-0. You could read us like a book before now we just don't know what to expect.

A line-up so boring no-one could be arsed to post it.

No discussion 15 minutes after lineup to a CL tie has been announced.

How much does that say about uniteds predicament or how much does it say about the state of this forum?

    Looks like a 451.

At least Greenwood is on the bench

Only on the bench caus McTominy picked up a knock

You be afraid to give a honest prediction of what you might think will happen in case we get few after timers post match.

Plenty of great lads not here no more which is great shame, but who can blame them? Got very little to do with United on the pitch, if I was to give a verdict

    Will leave it at that.

What an odd team selection. Midfield and defence are good but Andreas and Mata wide seems wrong.

Says more about the state of the forum to be honest.

This place was the busiest soccer thread during the days of moyes and lvg it went through 10k posts every two months easily we are now 3 months into this one and will probably last past Christmas.

There is no hunger to contribute meaningful discussion here the way things are so it's only natural it all take a place elsewhere while heads are hurried in the sand.

As for tonight's game i think the lineup says it all really, we didn't leave it until the last day to qualify and we would need a remarkable result elsewhere to finish top so the lineup was always going to be for players to prove themselves and for the manager to see who is up for the fight and who is not.

First shìt Lukaku touch of the night that ruins a very good opening.

He's finally losing weight though so it's cool.

Went for the ball not intentional.

Certainly not intentional but was a bit wreckless

Only thing that saved him was his lack of studs

Players don't look bothered at all today. No surprise really

Only been 20 minutes but Fred has been a disaster.

Couldn't be arsed to look at it. Thought I'd never say something like that. The occasional half decent result doesn't change a thing. If he's still there in Jan he'll remain there for the season and beyond

At least Mata always looks like he is trying to make things happen. He's always looking for the ball and telling players where he expects them to be.

Amazing how keepers recover once a yellow card appears for their challenger.
