There’s a big difference between having confidence that something will happen versus believing it’s possible. No united fan is confident that this team will Win anything but that doesn’t mean we should give up all hope completely. Sure what’s the point in bothering to watching any games if you have absolutely no hope at all? In many seasons the best team (on paper/form) doesn’t win the CL and cup competitions are different beasts to league football.

United are dangerous if they click and while correctly under dogs there is no Standout team in Europe. There’s plenty of teams who should and can beat united but again that’s not the point. Will anybody be surprised if united draw 0-0 against pool on Sunday? That shouldn’t even be possible if we factor in the season both clubs are having. That may not happen but it’s what Jose can do in one off big games. Ironically these tactics may prove more effective against bigger teams in Europe.

I don’t expect united to win anything this season. Even at the start of season I thought quarter finals would be a decent run. Getting past the next knockout stage looks a tall order right now. I’m just saying that I wouldn’t be overly surprised if Jose rallied the team to do much better then we expect.
You: Yeh, I said it earlier in the season, if united get to the quarters anything is possible with Jose as manager.

    (ie. we COULD win it).

Benny: No way are you going to win it, don't give yourselves false hope.

You: Who said we would win it?

You, you said we could win it - which is all Benny was commenting on.

Jose team will perform better against one of the 'better' sides. Just no way they can keep getting past quality sides.

Against a side in the lower bracket United always struggle to take the game to them and end up like the Seville result last year.

Either way I don't see United doing much, not with the Pogba mess or the struggles of Sanchez.

No doubt they do have the odd good performance against the "better sides" but to win the CL they will have to beat 4 "better sides" in a row

He is broken as a wide forward. Needs to play a new position, legs are gone. Would still do well as a 9 imo.

I highly doubt Utd could win it, but Chelsea in 2012 have proven that it can be done. And one might say that Liverpool in 2005 were far from the best team in the tournament.

I'm sorry and I am biased of course but there is no way on hell this season Jose team is winning the champions League.

But the next round is not until the end of Feb, so maybe just maybe a new manager and a few new signings would give some hope.

This team with this manager, no way no how. Don't do it to yourself s lads.

And before you say it I don't think Liverpool will win it either, we missed the boat last year and we won't get the luck of the draw this year but TBF it will be wide open this year. Could see Spurs get a good run

United can't win it.It's wide open.Spur could go far.

Poor mouth about Liverpool just in case .

    I like it.

    Good points,well made.

Greenwood not in the under 19 squad surely makes the bench tonight

Jose said he was only brought in case there was an injury. Probably won't be in squad.

If the plan is to have him in the stands, odd he didn't feature for the 19s. Part of the reason the games are played the same day is so that the players could be part of both, if needed.

Suppose no point bringing him as back up and then seeing him get injured for the 19s.

Mostly right but with one correction. This united team with Jose in charge can't win it. A lot of you keep missing my point.

A new manager before February could change things for sure

The u19s were already qualified so they were so maybe he wants to just bring him along to see the preparation and all that.

He should stick him on the bench instead of Rashford and keep Rashford for the weekend. The quality he has shown so far should be rewarded with some minutes.

No chance we're winning the Champions League, we'll be lucky to get through the next round. And theres no chance Mourinho will be sacked before we're eliminated from it

We will surely have something lined up for January in the transfer market

I don't think we do. Or it is going to be an irritating game between Jose and Woodward.

Would Jose like someone in - I 100% believe so, yeah. Napoli CB or Alderwerield.

Will Woodward want to sign a player for Jose - only if it aligns with a signing he wants, imo.

I think the club is still very unsure of the future under Jose and won't make any Jose-centric player decisions.

Jam sponsor. Then Woodward can come out and say "it's money for jam lads"

Do you think you'll go after Koulibaly? He'd be a great buy for you.

We really shouldn't though no point signing players Jose wants now if he is gone before the summer.

No point letting Ed sign players he might want as he seems clueless on football matters so we would need a DOF before that happens.

Also if we have a new manager coming in down the line and he wants control of transfers we should be saving money for him to spend.

The mess was caused in the summer or some might say last Jan when Jose got his contract but either way we are in it now until jose probably gets sacked and more reckless spending of money without a plan wont really help

Alderweild would be such a typical united signing, spend 40m on him, give him massive wages and then him getting a bad hamstring injury on his first apperance

£25 million next year (contract says so), £30+ in January.

So 40m in january would be a reasonable figure..

Discussing it with an Inter fan today at lunch, of course he would be bias too, he did say in his opinion Jose is more talented at coaching knockouts, which I found odd considering his league success with them.

I was discussing how poor we've been in the league but I think you can't say we are definitely not winning the CL. For as much fault as I find in Mourinho in these sort of situations of knockouts and matched up against someone he is very good normally at building his plan, has proven this with all the success he has had in knockouts. He will no doubt focus all his attention on the CL now too, similarly to the Europa campaign.

I think a bit of this was proven with the matchup with Juventus. Also I do see Liverpool having a good run again this year, more so than Spurs. I think for us the main problem will be seeding, unless a miracle tonight we will end up with a tough first matchup.

15 million for what equates to a 6 month loan deal seems a tad excessive even in this current market climate

United would beat Porto and Dortmund I'd say(like Dortmund but they have a lot of young players and bar the Klopp CL final run have been quite naive in knockouts). Bayern and Real not the juggernauts they have been in years gone by but they'd probably still beat United. Can't get Juve or Man City. PSG is worst case scenario imo, they would tear United to shreds.

Swapped Mkhitaryan for Sanchez so probably about a 25-30m value on that, plus Sanchez's presumably massive signing fee.
