You'd park a bus sideways in it...
hmmm... speaking of parking buses sideways.

Eh, yeah, I'll be sticking with this thread tonight, thanks very much....
Can't wait - haven't been this nervous/anticipatory (is that a word?) before a game for a while. To use the obvious cliche, we need to score early, let the crowd really get going and then cross all bodily extremities - has the making of another great European night under the lights, Olympiacos all over again except it's an Ancelotti Napoli, so it's not gonna be pretty. It does feel like we're getting closer to peaking, Saturday was a big step, so not as nervous as I was last week, but still, it's a big one. In Klopp we trust....

Anyone else think Milner will start at RB tonight?

Agreed - would think TAA will start after his rest.

    Team announcement due at 6.45

Liverpool make three changes for this evening's game as Trent Alexander-Arnold, Jordan Henderson and Sadio Mane replace Fabinho, Naby Keita and Xherdan Shaqiri from the starting XI deployed at Bournemouth on Saturday.

Liverpool: Alisson, Alexander-Arnold, Matip, Van Dijk, Robertson, Henderson, Wijnaldum, Milner, Mane, Salah, Firmino.

Subs: Mignolet, Fabinho, Lovren, Keita, Sturridge, Shaqiri, Origi.

So, no real surprises - strong bench, so plenty of options, looks like the ole trusted 4-3-3- c'mon lads!

Not confident with that midfield I have to say.

Bleugh. Why start with the least inspiring selection?

I just... That midfield was proven to be poor last year, it's why Ox was so important to us. I don't understand voluntarily going back to it.

Andy and Trent better have their crossing boots on! So bloody nervous. C'mon the Pool.

Bleugh. Why start with the least inspiring selection?

Shaqiri - started the previous three
Keita - started previous two after coming off an injury
Fabinho - is still being slowly brought along, played two of the last three

Not a shock that these three didn't get a start and he went with the guys he's had longer and are more aware of what he wants.

Not at all surprised with that team tbh. Pleanty of game-changing options on the bench.

    Keita deserved a start IMO....

I dont expect us to go through tonight, we may have left ourselves with too much to do.

I wouldn't bet against us at all but its a real tricky fixture......on our day we are good enough though, need a fantastic display here.....

Not just yours. Henderson's armband must be what gets him recalls.
He was absolutely useless in Paris & got sent off in the previous game during the closing stages of a 3-0 win. He should wait until others lose form which they hadn't.

Hopefully they play a stormer and we're proven wrong anyway

    Henderson is an absolute passenger.

Absolutely boggles the mind how he is still getting a game.

He is completely ineffective, count how many times he passes the ball backwards or sideways versus forward.

It seems because he does a lot of running and finger pointing makes him a great player in some people's eyes.

Genuinely don't understand what he offers. The 13/14 season he was great in a more forward role. He has regressed substantially since then and seems to enjoy playing ultra conservatively all the time.

    A poor man's michael carrick.

He's just being a bit cautious and going with a familiar set up that's tried and tested and had some rest recently. They've been a bit meh at times but can also do the business, so yeah, it's a bit nerve wrecking but there's options and get an early one and who knows what will happen...

It is pretty crazy that Henderson felt more important to us five years ago then he does now as our captain.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 61,272 ✭✭✭✭Agent Coulson

Henderson is a fine player when used in an attacking role.

He is not and never was a number 6 he just doesn't have it in his game to play that role.

The problem for Henderson is the club always had better players in attacking midfield than him.

Henderson could run all day and was a great water carrier midfielder however we don't need that type of player in either a 433 or 4231 that we play under Klopp.

So yes the armband does play a part I think he maybe a great lad around the training ground and well deserve to be a training ground captain.

However he should not be the on field captain.

Confident of a win tonight. We have a bench that can change a game for the better if need be. Napoli are a good team, but no more than that.
If we get at them, which we will, there are goals there for us. Our defence should do what they have been doing all season at Anfiled.

Boylesports have salah at 5/6 to get 2 shots on target - Is that like free money?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 28,920 ✭✭✭✭murpho999

Serious underestimation of how important Henderson is to the team.

Do people really think Klopp is stupid and/or sentimental and just pick him because he has an armband that Klopp has already said he doesn't really care about.

Absolutely - bookies are renowned for giving away free money....

To be fair, it does sound like a good bet unless it's only 2 shots on targets, 3 and you get nada...

Nothing gets a bookie excited like someone saying "that sounds like free money to me"
