Sorry lads I'm still confused with this one nil win being enough.

    Napoli, 9 points, W 2, D 3, L 0. Beat Liverpool 1-0 at home. GD +3.

    Liverpool 6 points, W 2, D 0, L 3. GD +1.

If Liverpool win tonight 1-0 then the head to head games are equal. GD + 2 equal.

So will the 1-0 win put us through purely on winning 3 games versus 2?

In that scenario we'll have scored more goals overall so will go through in second place if PSG win, and top if PSG draw or lose.

Never thought these kind of stats were possible under Klopp. Remember being three or four nil up in games and still feeling it wasn't over!

Get out of that will you. When was the last time we dropped points when 3 up.

Nearly a year ago now. We don't look like giving up a lead any more and look comfortable in most games.

I fully agree with you, just wanted to know the answer to your question! I thought it was that game straight off but went and checked.

Right now 1-0 feels much better than it used to and 2 goals ahead feels comfortable.

Not sure I'd feel like that tonight but in the league we look very good at the back

I have a feeling we will try play for the 1-0 tonight, and the more I think of it, I think that is the best option, for a couple of reasons.

    1) Napoli are top scorers in the Serie A. If we go all out attack and try and blow them away and win 3-0, it turns the game into a higher risk game and runs the risk of conceding 1 or 2 and needing to score 3, 4 or more goals. Napoli have the ability to create chances and score goals. The ability to have a whole team playing for a 1-0 will help cover any brain farts from Lovren/Matip (Hendo / Gini / Milner screening) as opposed to a helter-skelter game where they will get exposed more easily.

    2) Napoli also have one of the best CBs around in Kouliably. Do we really want to turn the game into a you-score-we-score game and backing ourselves to score past him, and an Italian team multiple times?

    3) Energy - we have a big game at the weekend and will need to have that extra 5% in the locker to break down a deep defensive United team.

    4) Since VVD & Alisson have come in, we have the ability to see out games at 1-0, while still having the ability to nick one later on the counter attack.

    Virgil followed by Allison :)
Thankfully he splashed the cash and it worked. For a while I feared he'd stick with Karius.

Anyone see the MNF combined 11 for the game next Sunday.

The lads included two United players who can't even get in their own team never mind a combined one.

    Anyway it was

    De Gea
    TAA, Bailey, VVD, Robertson
    Kieta, Matic, Pogba
    Salah, Bobby, Mane

I don't want to say they are wrong but no way De Gea, Bailey, Matic or Pogba deserve to be in that team based on performances this season.

Suppose you have to throw the dogs a bone if we're talking combined 11....which is most certainly a useless endeavour anyway.

Thank God for that Tranmere game pre-season

these winner takes all games in cup competitions can throw up some crazy scores. Even at 3 up with 10 minutes to go it's still in the balance when the other side only need two. I don't see any comfortable score-line that's reasonably achieveable in the circumstances.
If we go out it will be largely because of our poor away results / performances.

I'm hoping this is a joke, as it would be very silly to think that Liverpool spend a world record transfer fee on a GK based on the warm up of a pre-season friendly game. And that the previous 6/7 months scouting and negotiations with player & club were actually done after the pre-season game.

1-0 would put Liverpool through for scoring more goals

They were already in for Allison. It really looked like they were going to stick with Karius for 2019. I doubt there was any one thing but at some point it changed from "We must get Allison" to "We must get Allison at any cost". The ball bobbling through his legs would have been hilarious if it wasn't so horrifying but there were a few things I'd say that indicated his head wasn't right.

What warm up? I meant the Tranmere game where he spilled the free kick to their player who then scored....it was a full preseason game, call it a warm up but he still shouldn't be making those mistakes

No it wasn't just that game, but Klopp had been rumoured to be considering starting the season with him as number 1. Tranmere for me was the tipping point, pre-season or not it really showed that his position was untenable. The media and fans would just amplify any mistake. We were already interested and talking to Alisson long before the end of last season so I'm not saying we decided to go get him on the back of that game, but anybody who was still on Karius's side definitely thought twice after that.

In the warm up before that game the cameras were at the side of the pitch for pre game build up and he let the ball go through his legs from a shot.

Would imagine the whole double bluff about keeping karius as number one was to let roma know they would be losing out on money potentially and allison on a move, say it was used as a tactic. Same as we were using ward as number 1 apparently too but two days later he was sold

I'm very calm about tonight. It is doable, and if we don't do it then we can't say we deserved any better outcome. So I'll rest easy either way. Our enemies will try and paint failure here as some sort of significant event. Pay no heed. Irrespective of tonight's result we are going well, making progress, and have plenty to play for over the rest of the season.

It would b very disappointing if we go out but our current league form does ease some pressure.

We are different to other clubs as we are desperate for a PL title while other top clubs would prefer CL success.

The next 2 months would determine how serious we would take the Europa League.
Hopefully stay top or close to City & progess in the FA Cup.

Wolves away a tough 3rd Round.

Our enemies? You mean fans of different English football teams? Feck what they think, I just want to see our lads do well and a satisfying Euro night of guts and thunder would set us up nicely indeed.

I don't fear going out of the champions league - I do fear playing Thursday/Sunday's in the Europa league......well I wouldn't say fear, it's more of a hatred of that match day arrangement.
