Just passed through John Street and all the rundown shops(everyone knows who owned them and why they were derelict for so long) are now marked sold. SO that's positive. The shop next to the pizza place in John Street is being worked on even as I write. the corner of Waterside , well that's a difficult one. I believe that a bank owns it. Mayor's walk is like so many secondary streets anyway. looking for a function although someone has posted that Besco on Ballybricken has been sold at last for a new supermarket. Meeting house lane would indeed make a nice mews development, but a multiplicity of owners and renters makes it hard to do anything. A lot of criticism on this thread which ignores what has been done(as always). Biggest improvement in any urban area anywhere in Ireland taken over past few years has been the view of the North Quays from Clock Tower area now that the flour mills and Halls stores have been demolished. Plan for the new pedestrian bridge has been published. I still can't understand why there is no thread on the SEEM (senser.ie) report . (as on RTE 1 TV news). His message was simple that until a fair share of state investment comes our way we are in trouble.

Is Besco for real this time? There's been assurances that something was being announced imminently there twice before that I can recall.

Where is the plan for the pedestrian bridge published?

That Besco site has been sold or near selling a few times.

SEEM has been mentioned on this thread

There not all empty, mordants is back open and there was a barbers in the shop next to it but now its a tanning salon i think, and the casino is closed but looks better than that pic thanks to waterford walls.

I noticed a few of the Walls pics recently, mind you it's worth remembering why that project got the got off the ground in the first place - an excess of ugly derelict walls.

Hes hardly gonna state hes concerned with the residents needs. More like concerned with lining his pockets and damn the residents of the area.

If you choose to live in the CBD that is your problem.I really hope there is no ban.

Again life is not black or white, as others have said, many have been living there decades, and deserve peace in their homes

I know that if you live in the city centre that you cannot expect total quietness and hassle-free car access/parking. However, in this case I think the residents have fair reasons to be annoyed. Sure the council admitted that they never did any traffic management plan in the area when planning the development. When John’s St is closed now traffic is going up Convent Hill and on to Barrack’s St. There is not a worse place for extra traffic!

You see this time and time again with the council. They get an idea and funding to do something but they don’t think of the practicalities.

I am not alone in my thoughts on WCC!

I shudder to think on how they will spend all those millions for the development of the north quays if they get it!

I would love to see what sort of projects etc that the the arm chair urban designers/traffic engineers/planners would come up with if thrown into a Local authority and given ‘millions’ to spend on whilst taking into account and satisfying the enviromental/procurement/planning/health and safety etc regs and then deal with the public and myriad of other stakeholders and quangos that you are answerable to/trying to comply with.......I am by no means saying that we have things perfect locally but there have been some very successful public works contracts Completed locally in the last 15-20 years such as n25 bypass and bridge (I no the toll etc should never have been put on it but ignoring that I think it’s a very good addition to the city as a whole) also outer ring road, waste water treatment plant....numerous improvements to the water network, greenway, to name just a few...! So less of the negative moaning and glass always half empty mindset.....it’s so easy to knock and ridicule things from the outside looking In or should that be inside looking out....?

What does this city need? There is a couple of solutions I have come with here.

I am suggesting building a giant statue of John Mullane at the Ard Rí. I was thinking it could look like the statue of liberty. It would represent our staunch commitment to self-autonomy from a Dublin government that seeks to subjugate us. American tourists would be jealous of our statue.

What about illegal smuggling of Kilkenny people across the bridge? This is not parish pump politics. I kid you not. We're going to build a wall. This is a pragmatic solution to illegal Kilkenny people coming here taking our jobs. The wall will be built around the Waterford side of ferrybank in order to push back the godless heathens from coming across our side. The Waterford part of ferrybank will effectively be an enclave North of the river and will be protected by the Waterford expeditionary force.

A giant triumphant arch will be erected on Ballybricken to commemorate Waterford seceeding from the Republic. We will send John Halligan as our UN representative and if we're called upon again to broker peace in international conflicts such as North Korea/South Korea, Israel/Palestine, we can send him.

I'm submitting this to the council tomorrow, I hope to receive backing from all members.

Thought this was the best thread for this other than a fresh on - Fine Gael Kilkenny Jnr Minister John Paul Phelan is hatching a plan to take over the control of Waterford City development under the District Local Area Plan which covers 45,000 Waterford City +7,000 south Kilkenny with 6 councillors split evenly (3 W, 3 K) between both areas who would have the ultimate power over Waterford City council.

Detail's are still scrappy and it's a story still developing.

NOTHING would surprise me at this stage as to what this Fine Gael government would do to Waterford.

I see Waterford Glass currently have a pay to park area completed recently. Can't quite see how that could be successful, unless students can't find a parking spot in the WIT and are too lazy to walk from the RSC. Unsure how much an hour or daily rate is.

I only caught the last minute or 2 of the interview. He seemed to be backtracking on the 3/3 split. Anyone hear the full interview?
