i wrote this after the Burnley goal.

i'm 99% sure if it had been the same situation last year, my fears would've become reality, and we'd have drawn at the very best, but probably lost.

it says a huge amount about where the team is at that it found a way to win. Milner with a superb shot. a set piece routine. and a last minute breakaway. nothing out of the ordinary, just efficient, professional goals.

Still in touch with the 'best team in the history of the Premier League'.

Fair enough but using phrases like "nowhere to hide" is pure hyperbole. Staring down a packed Xmas period rotating the squad is needed and the team he picked should be enough to beat a dire Burnley. We have 39 points out of 45!

We also weren't even playing badly. Was more or less the same as our other games tbh.

2nd rate trophies, any top club should only concerned about the CL and PL. Sure its nice to win a domestic cup, but its proven time and time again, owners don;t give a ****e at this level about them.

Nah. This implies that other than the league and CL trophies are all but meaningless which is not the case in my view. obviously there is a hierarch of importance with those two at the top, but that doesn't mean disregarding success in other competitions.

Mourinho having won the LC and EL 2 years ago won't be much use in his case against the sack, but they shouldn't be branded as almost irrelevant. I'm not a club owner, therefore cannot speak for them, but if Liverpool won the FA Cup this season, for example, I would be much happier than thinking "that's nice".

If Liverpool get 90 points and finish second then not winning a trophy won't be used by any reasonable person as reason Klopp should be sacked, similar as if Liverpool flopped in a season with 50 points (again!) winning an FA Cup wouldn't be justification for keeping him on.

Evolution of the team is the key. If there is a clear sense of growth or sustained excellence then it's all good. If things go stagnant and downhill it will be game over. Even though winning or not winning these trophies are not the main barometer to judge clubs/managers by, they are very definitely worth winning.

No news on Joe Gomez yet, starting to get worried.

There were too many changes in one go last night.

    Not sure I agree.

Robertson and mane could do nothing about.

We saw what happened to gomez.

Sturridge and Origi both played parts in the goals and besides Bobby and Salah needed a break.

It was a tactic gamble but I really think it was the right move and I wouldn't have blamed the decision if we'd dropped points.

Tbh going forward I'm going to be very nervous of we make 6 or 7 changes, particularly away from home.
Since Belgrade I've felt that way.

We have games on Saturday and Tuesday which is tight enough. However, after that, there are 4 clear days before the Utd match, more than enough that it shouldn't be a problem, even given utd's dead rubber in the CL/

Great for the squad to get a run out and still come away with 3 points. Onto Saturday now for another tough game

I'd play the strongest team available now until the FA cup week.

Tbh the majority of fans for utd dont seem to rate him. I think hes a great footballer as seen for juve.

He's a great footballer if correctly managed and motivated (by the manager) and is in a team which plays to his individual strengths (a roaming AM type role) and weaknesses (inability or lack of interest in pressing and defending). At the moment he has the wrong manager and is part of the wrong team.

I don't think there is a top 6 PL team where he would fit in and improve it they have more or less all adopted a high tempo structured game which doesn't accommodate his loose style of play. To a certain extent Jorginho at Chelsea and Mesut Özil at Arsenal also struggle to fit into their perspective teams despite both being very talented footballers.

Utd are very different to the top 6 in that they play a very negative defensive style of football but that doesn't accommodates Pogba either as he doesn't have the discipline to deliver his defensive duties. The fact that he looks like he doesn't give a toss any more and just constantly gives the ball away is only making things worse.

As Deshamps proved during the WC if you man manage Pogba correctly and give him a role which he is suited to play he can deliver to a very high level.

Lampard has confirmed that Wilson can be recalled in January.

Worth recalling him or leave him where he is?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,740 ✭✭✭✭MD1990

    I would recall Wilson.

He has been playing as a winger & a centre mid in a 3 for Derby. Versatile & very good in the final third.
Maybe sell Lallana in January if he Wilson is brought back.

my issue wasn't that he rotated. my issue was that he changed his entire front line at once.

but i was wrong. it happens. and i'll be wrong again. the team pulled through as Klopp obviously thought they would.

Seems hard on Derby to rob them of his talent! As much as I'd like to see Wilson play I doubt he'd get the game time unless Lallana and Original were sold, even then it's doubtful.

No, Id let him get more game time and development time where he is now. I'd rather have Lalana on the bench to bring on with his experience and understanding of how we play.
But come the end of the season I may have a different opinion.

15 games played and only dropping points to Chelsea, Man City and Arsenal is not bad.

No leave him there for the season. He's doing very well and if he comes back he won't see much game time.

Ya, it's hard to see him breaking into the Liverpool team on any sort of meaningful basis. He'll likely end up sold to a Bournemouth/Watford/Palace level team I suspect for 8-10m.

I was really pleased to see so many changes last night. With a better ref Bardsley would have been sent off and on another day their goal would have been chalked off. The main men were on the bench if needed.

For me the psychological break is just as important as the physical one for the first teamers. It helps that Naby now looks to offer something different in the middle and Matip, Origi and Fab are looking like genuine replacements. Loved Milner's performance last night especially after Alby(who did ok until another bad tackle scuppered him) had to go off and we know he'll do a job in either FB position if called upon.

I would have been calling for the first team to start this weekend but last night has me much more optimistic about rotation.

What's up with Lovren last few games?

I was only talking about this season! He can make a case for himself at Pride Park and in the summer friendlies.

You can't think it is likely he will make it at Liverpool, do you? I'd love for him and more youth products to do so, but it is more and more difficult at most of the big clubs. His best route to a big club, if he has the ability and attitude is to leave Liverpool and go to a lower prem club and then maybe get snapped up by a bigger team again if he does well there.

Gomez out for up to six weeks with a fracture.

Gomez out for 6 weeks with a broken ankle. Big blow, but ligament damage would've been a lot worse.

Could not have come at a worst time.

    Foooook that's not good.
fingers crossed he comes back as good as ever. Prob be February at the earliest though.
Do we have any other CB options since Klavan left other than Lovren and Matip? they are both prone to being less than robust over the course of a run of games.

Sickened about Gomez. 6 weeks means he'll miss Napoli & the Christmas schedule.
Worth recalling him or leave him where he is?

Only if Lallana is sold, no point recalling him if he doesn't play.

Rather it not happen at all but if only this injury came a month later we could at least pick up a short term replacement.

It's a shame, but we have cover both at full back and centre half.
