    De Gea
    Valencia-McToninay-Smalling-Rojo-Darmian
    Herrera--Matic--Fellaini
    Lingard
    Lukaku.

Rashford, Martial, Fred, Mata, Bailly, Dalot, Romero.

Everyone on that bench should be starting apart from romero

It's a sign of where we now are that top 4 is acceptable if reports are true. I personally couldn't give a flying ****e if we didn't qualify for the champions league. This crack of scraping in from 4th place is depressing enough without going out without a whimper when we meet someone only relatively decent in the rd of 16.

The pejorative “bad Jose” statement is made because some fans are unwilling (or unable) to discuss the club problems outside of the manager. If you aren’t saying “sack Jose, he’s the problem” they think you absolving him of all responsibility for the way things have gone. They actually think you are “shifting goalposts” if you try to go deeper into things. It’s kind of funny and annoying in equal measure cause it doesn’t lend itself to discussion and forces an echo chamber type community.

Every fan knows and accepts the teams results and performances this year are not acceptable. Every fan knows that Jose is not doing well with this squad. Things surely can’t go on the way it’s going, I don’t know anybody saying what Jose is getting out of this team this season is good on any level. But taking a broader perspective on the club issues is not denying this or letting Jose off the hook.

I think some People find focusing only on José Cathartic on several levels. They know that he can be sacked (we can’t get the board or glazers sacked). They know sacking Jose brings change and with that comes hope. It might not necessarily be good change but change of where We are at. Also to really explore the glazers/Woodward effect on the club could lead to the reality of our situation and destroy any hope that things might improve.

In fairness , The short term bounce of a new coach is exciting for us all, but it doesn’t make the other club problems go away or answer any of the questions about the owners/Woodward that many fans don’t want to consider.

    100% agree.

The last 5 seasons we finished 7th, 4th, 5th, 6th, 2nd with Jose in charge for 2 of them and last year was clearly an over achievement. I wouldnt cry any tears if Jose got sacked but the root of the problem runs much deeper. Do any fans think we under achieved in those 5 seasons? Those seasons were missed opportunities sure, but quite simply we were not good enough and the current squad isnt good enough. Jose should be able to get more out of the team, akin to last year but you'd still be kidding yourself.

Jose is one problem, his personality probably never fitted our club to begin with but after lvg we were at a low ebb so we turned to a winner.

The players are a huge problem - Does anyone actually like the current crop of players apart from De Gea, who rarely lets us down? the squad is a pile of ****e that down tools way too easily. They lack quality, they lack heart and run away from the fight. We are leaderless and most of the players are over paid. I see lots of posters, post their team for tonight. How many of those 11 would get into Citys team? How many would even get into Liverpools, Spurs or Chelseas team? Would you like to go into battle with these lads?

The board/Glazers are a major problem. - The Dallas Cowboys are not owned by the Glazers but they know them only too well. The Cowboys are generally Top of Forbes rich sports club every year. Yet it has nothing to do with their success on the field!! They haven't won the Super Bowl since 1995. But they are a money making machine, just like us. At the end of the day if the $$ are coming into the coffers then the Glazers are content.

Transfer policy has been and is a massive problem - Andy Mitten recently said he met a top agent, who during the summer met United and City to discuss player recruitment. City knew exactly the type of player they wanted, for every position and the attributes the player required to have. When he met United (Ed), they just banded big names about. The United belief is a few Galacticos will fix it. Sanhez, Ibra, DI Maria, Falcao, Pogba, and Lukaku to name a few just havent worked out and prove otherwise. And yet we wont pay decent money on a defense that seriously needs upgrading. City buy 3 International full backs for £130m. United buy a 19yr old right back for £19m with limited experience.

Player scouting is big problem - You look at someone like Richarlison at Everton that came from Watford & now doing very well on an International level. Surely he could have done a job. You then have Fred. Was he even scouted?? Supposedly 3 players who played with him have said off-record that he is good but not United standard. Thats a worry. We haven't unearthed a gem since Fergie's time.

Lack of management continuity over the last few years has been a big problem. - Mentioned this before but Moyes was very conservative, LVG just want players to keep the ball, and Mourinho likes a solid & physical team that can over power opponents. All 3 managers had differents ideas on the game, and fancied different type of players. I think nearly all of LVG's signings have been shown the door at this stage.

Lack of strategy and philosophy is another problem. - We dont have one. Its pilar to post and hope for the best.

Totally off topic but relevant to this thread - I just went to see Wreck it Ralph 2 and there is an ebay portion of the film where Ralph is looking to purchase something and I’m positive the seller of the item was pjohnson.

If anyone else goes to see it tell me if I was right. It’s the part where they are bidding on the item.

Thought it was a funny coincidence.

There are also some posters that nailed there colours to the LVG mast to the bitter end (got a lot of grief for that tbf) and or hated José and finally have a very strong argument this season in comparison to last.

I wouldn't have been a fan of José previously but once he became our guy I've judged him based on the work he's done at the club, some of the fanbase will never like or accept him end off.

    Really good post!

I think Manchester United is in serious danger of losing its identity on the pitch.

Horrible how wrong things have went since Sir Alex left. I'd love to know his honest opinion on things now.

Fairly depressing lineup once again. At least he had the balls to drop Pogba who was simply an embarrassment of a professional last Saturday

Well if he's going out at least he is going out on his own terms

Jose dropping Pogba and Lukaku is actually the correct thing to do based on their performances but if we take a beating tonight it will be thrown in his face. No win scenario for him unless we actually win the game with a decent performance.

Honestly, I'm happy. It will answer a lot of questions. This throw of the dice will decide a few things.

How will Pogba react if needed to be brought on, or if he's not brought on?

Damian, Dalit, Bailly playing together is risky but will answer questions about their ability and desire.

Matic needs to be dropped. He's been as bad as Pogba.

    Another boring looking line up.

    Yawn

That line up is some statement from mourinho, how matic keeps his place I’ll never know, has been as embarrassing as pogba

Thats a brutal lineup... How mctominay gets on the bench ahead of pereira and fred is beyond me

I'd say McTom is there for defensive cover not midfield cover.. pogba mata and Fellaini the midfield cover, playing 3 injury prone cb means we need someone there at least and we have no fit back ups

    Fred isn't injured, right ?

FFS, as long as he's fit - he's got to be at least on the bench !

It's as if he's trying to get the sack at this stage. Horrible looking lineup but we always seem to do the trick against Arsenal. Lets hope tonight is no different but I wouldnt put money on it

Besides fred in and matic out who thats available do people want playing as has been said pogba and lukaku have been cat.

A truly depressing line-up, at least on paper anyway. On the other hand, anytime I've liked the look of our line up recently the performance has been pure dirt.

I hope Jose goes out with a bang. At least it might offer us some entertainment because we sure as hell aren't going to get it watching the team play.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,507 ✭✭✭clubberlang12

Worried by the lack of creativity there. Would have preferred Mata to Lingard as the most advanced of that midfield trio.

  • Moderators, Sports Moderators Posts: 18,721 Mod ✭✭✭✭DM_7

I think one CB out and another cm in I would be happy with the team.

Not sure what the 5 defenders is about other than matching what Arsenal do.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 14,134 ✭✭✭✭Rayne Wooney

That lineup is hilarious, a massive two fingers to Woodward and Pedestrian Paul on the bench.

Mourinho knows the game is over

Auba could get a hatrick, we never looked like holding a good line with 3 at the back and add in some poor defenders who dont play with each other against his pace it does look worrying.

People want youth- Martial, Lingard, Rashford, Dalot start. Our squad is rubbish so this is what we have left when 'stars' aren't preforming.

Pogba and Lukaku rightly dropped after the farce the last day. Matic shud be dropped too but that's the extent of what we have to play with and it's fairly underwhelming.

Hope I'm totally wrong and we win tonight but given recent displays, we had to try something different.
