City never broke any world transfer records either by fee or position, Liverpool broke 2 in 6months on VVD for a defender & Alison for a keeper. Both fantastic signings by the way & worth every penny.

Instead of looking at the overall figure they’ve spent seeing as we know every club can’t spend that amount why not try look at the bargain signings and ask yourself why Liverpool or any other club make them?

Examples, Bernardo Silva £45m & Ederson £35m combined £80m just as 2 examples. Weigh that up with Keita & Alison at (I stand to be corrected) combined £135m. These are only 2 of many examples for every club that I can use to counter argument the ridiculous notion that it’s hard to compete. Maybe they’re just doing much better business?

Now, obviously if Liverpool were to win the league this year then the above paragraph I wrote is worthless because them players will have the medals & end of the day that’s what it’s about.

On a final note, ‘Financial cheating’ has NOTHING to do with their premier league standing, they never broke a Premier League rule, it’s a UEFA rule. They could be banned from Europe for ever more, it’s nothing to do with the Premier League.

Two dearest full backs in the world. Is kyle walker the most expensive English player of all time also?

Yeah they would be, I was just classifying them as defenders is all. But as full backs them City have broke one of them records.

Not sure about Walker but I’d imagine it’s either him or Sterling yeah. I was on about World Records though.

I'm good for a cuddle, thanks for the offer though. Their sustained spending the last 10 years have meant they have a stacked squad. They may not be PSG who went for the big statement signings, but they have still spent about £100m net per season since 2008. That is 2 players of the quality of Kevin De Bryune per season lately. Earlier seasons you are looking at 4 David Silva's for the fee he commanded, so the deck is absolutely stacked in their favour.

We have spent quite big the last few windows ourselves but not to the degree that they have and not at the sustained time as well. And yet I am happy, because we are only 5 points behind with a game in hand. We look better than all of our rivals other than City. Those are some good positives when the only team you are chasing has unlimited money and are not adverse to bending or breaking the rules.

    Keita - £52.75m
    Allison - £56m could rise to £66.8m

Combined £108.75m could rise to £119.55m

They have been brilliant with their spending as well. They have not gone for the world record on one player, but have opted for two or three world class players. Take 2010 where they signed Dzeko, Toure, Balotelli, Silva, Kolarov, Milner and Boateng in one season. Net spend that year was £133m.

The next season they added Augero and Nasri. They won the league in 2011/12. There was another sustained spending spree from 2015 to last year. They bought De Bryune, Sterling and Otamendi in 2015, then Stones, Sane, Jesus, Gundogan, Bravo and Nolito in 2016. In 2017 they went big again and went for Laporte, Mendy, Walker, Bernardo Silva, Ederson and Danilo. 15 players that would be contending for places in most teams.

It really is impressive the way they have spent and the football they play is pure Pep at his best. If they weren't competing with us (as of right now) for the title it would actually be something to enjoy. But with those resources you really shouldn't expect anything less. It is impressive that they are actually surpassing expectations, which is saying something.

Burnley at home to Brighton at the weekend - a fixture they are more likely to pick up points from you would assume.

I wonder is there any chance that they may rest a few tonight for that game?

My bad, I will stop being obsessed/jealous with City and will go back to what we should be doing, focusing on ourselves.:)

You are much better with words than I’ll ever be. Brilliantly put.

I’ll leave it now so lads :D

I wasn’t trying to troll or look for an argument either by the way! It’ll be a good battle till May & I love watching Liverpool play football!

Best of luck, I might pop in from time to time!

What the views on watching other matches when Liverpool are playing? - I usually wouldn't but......

I'm considering watching the first 15mins of the Liverpool match.

Switch over for entire first half of Man Utd - Arse.

Back for entire second half of 'Pool match.

    Last 15 minutes of ManU-Arse.

    Solid 2 hrs of football.

You can not compare Liverpool's recent spending with City's sustained spending since they activated the money cheat in 2008. It's a totally different prospect when you don't need to sell players to balance the books.

Since City were taken over Liverpool have sold:
    Xabi Alonso - £30m
    Torres - £50m
    Suárez - £65m
    Sterling - £44m
    Coutinho - £105m

I don't even remember City selling a player for £20m. Am I wrong? If someone doesn't work out, just buy a better replacement in the next window and leave your player earning £150k+ sitting on the bench or playing for the reserves.

    Kelichi £25m
    Negredo £24m
    Balotelli just under at £18m

They don’t sell there key players until past their prime though, largely.

For every Aguero there is a Robinho, Stones a Lescott, Dzeko a Bony/Santa Cruz, Fernandino a Rodwell, Laporte a Mangala, Sane a Navas etc etc...

yes they have spent well....on the ones that were a success and justified their price tag!! But they've also spent millions on dross over the years, yet can take the hit because there is seemingly a bottomless pit of money to be thrown at the club.

Lescott was a solid CB & a ever present major part of the first Premiership winning team.

So, Robertson might be ok to play tonight... klopp said it isnt anything too bad. I'd be afraid if Moreno starts.
Cant see mane taking part if he's walking round in flip-flops, with stitches in his foot.

Robertson will need a rest at some stage, the question is when should that be?

Did we not bend or break some rules ourselves?
We pulled out of the VVD transfer attempt #1 fairly sharpish for fear of getting a transfer ban due to our activities iirc.

Liverpool did breach FFP but it was because of the spending on the stadium. When this was shown to UEFA, there was no punishment.

I think tonight should be the night to rest him. We will need him in the next 3 games, including another midweek game next Tuesday against Napoli.

Moreno should have the pace to deal with Lennon at least, and with VVD on his side of defence aswell.

I'm not sure any team selection can accommodate Moreno. You can mitigate against him but he'll still do several "Moreno" things during the match and you just have to hope they are on the low end of the "oh my god" scale. Nearly any option is better.

    Just play Milner there then.

Could Clyne do a job there

Navas had his place aswell ,I would not consider him a failure but his time had come by the time Pep had arrived.

Hopefully there’s not too much tinkering with the team tonight. Play the best team.

No use unless they have BT Sports free, the number of games Sky have these days is very poor outside of Sunday...

That is a good deal considering the number of times we are going to be on Sky over the next 2 months (4) plus all the additional Xmas matches they will be showing.
