Surely you're complaint was in reference to the Southampton game ?

McTominay has played what 4 times this season off the back of truly awful performances from established centre backs.

No, it was in reference to team selection over the season so far, and it obviously was as I mentioned poor players who continued to be picked. Winters never mentions any of it, not a credible argument really.

I have yet to figure out how putting two CMs in at CB helped protect the weakness of having a CM in there. Having two of them as well as changing formation had to exacerbate the problem.

It had to make more sense to play with a compact back four so regular full backs are close by and then play guys like Martial and Lingard to actually take the ball up field well away from the CM playing CB.

It just seems like Jose keeps going to that formation when it doesn't suit the players at all.

The net spend brigade are in.How wonderful.

I suppose when they didn't win the November Cup they need something else to come in peace over.

Oh, and by the by... i think anyone using a net transfer spend comparison and argument is a fkn' idiot. to be honest.

Why the F is the money United generate via commercial income, which they work hard and excellently at to bring in, considered less usable or correct than money brought in for player sales. The club should be generating income to fund outgoings. United spend loads on wages, they also have one of (if not the lowest) ratio's of turnover to wages in europe.

"But my club isn't as well run commercially... so lets just ignore that money!". Idiotic.

What you spend on transfers is what you spend on transfers. Doesn't matter whether that is funded by Kohler or selling Daily Blind.

Net spend comparisons are a better way of determining the ambitions & efficiency of a football club's transfer policy in relation to other football clubs.

To suggest gross spend figures should take precedence when undertaking such analyses would be to display a profoundly juvenile attitude towards the basic principles of economics.

Net spend is right up there with one of the daftest stats that can possibly be used to prove a point.

It completely unravels under any scrutiny.

    Nonsense.

It's not perfect (nothing is) but it's a damn sight more informative than gross spend.

Net and gross transfers are not the thing to consider. Total funds in and out of the club are what needs to be considered.

Bournemouth ahead of us now as it stands.

    Depressing

Agree - and it's why I initially mentioned total transfer spend and wage expenditure.

But it doesn't detract from the argument that net spend is a more useful figure than gross spend in the context of the debate that was had.

This Watford v City game is good craic. City being their usual selves with some great pressure on Watfords defense but Watford keeping them out.

He’s played so little I think it’s unfair to say that. And he has been good from what I’ve seen. Nothing special but hardly crap.

Fred paid the price, unfairly I would say, for our sh1t start in August.
He wasn't outstanding. But wasn't any worse than most players.

Since then he's been brought back for the occasional one game.....then dropped again.

Very hard to know just how good he'll be in this league as there's not been an opportunity for him to settle into the team.

Thought he played well in the Champions league last week.

I get worried when Uniteds net spend is in the black. Selling Ronaldo for €80 million and spending a couple of quid on Valencia and Owen was depressing.

Our right wing consists of Lukaku shuffling out there now and again while City have Mahrez and Bernardo Silva out there one two-ing and weaving around players.

    Depressing isn't the word.

I've gone through all the stages now. Used to be so depressed watching Utd and lately there is just complete ambivalence. It's just frustrating to have to wait the guts of a year to see whether the club will slide further into oblivion or actually make the changes necessary to get back to challenging for the top trophies.

Sad that it's gotten to this but sure what can we do!

Our manager has clearly lost the plot, thrown the toys out of the pram and has decided to sulk since he didn't get a defender he wanted. With a disgruntled Mourinho at the helm our season was over before a ball was kicked. Why he wasn't sacked in the summer is a mystery. Woodward and co. presiding over a third failed managerial appointment, dithering, failing to act, too cowardly to make the right decision at the right time etc...

Sacking Mourinho now is even too late really. The team is on its knees. Certain players have exacerbated the problem and played their part in what can only be seen as a spectacular failure by almost everyone at Man Utd.

Once again, Woodward and co. should be hung out to dry for allowing this embarrassment to continue. The fault is no longer with Mourinho, it is abundently clear that he is done and is just waiting for the axe to fall at this stage.

We are exactly where we deserve to be in the premier league table.

If he fails to get a result tomorrow night against Arsenal he shouldn't even see Christmas with United. Last Saturday for me was the final straw, that lineup at the back was a disgraceful selection and was clearly mourinho sending a f**k to Woodward

11 points behind 4th if we lose. You'd think that'd be the final nail but Woodward will continue to impress with his incredible lack of balls.

I doubt it. He should of been sacked numerous times this season and another lost tomorrow wont make a difference I feel.

Depending on how bad a loss it may be but we always seem to do well against arsenal so im going for a 2-1 win

Unless it's an absolute drubbing then it's unlikely.

19pts behind Man City after 15 games and he's spinning the talk about 4th place. Shows the ambition of the club when that's acceptable. I used to laugh at other clubs who saw top 4 as a successful season. Not laughing now that's for sure. We could easily finish 40+ pts off top spot at the end of the season.

Yes. He may even be sacked if it's an uninspiring draw. There's only so many times a board can keep ducking the decision. At least with Moyes & LVG; they weren't actively looking to get sacked. Mourinho is practically begging for a pay off, probably so he can return to his family and not live out of a hotel anymore. He has no desire to turn things around at United.

Why would that make any difference? Why would a win make any difference? The writing is on the wall and unless he somehow managed to win the champions league this season is finished. I can’t understand why any result makes a difference.

I wouldn’t be surprised if part of the problem is that no decent manager wants the job. Who the f**k wants to work in a club where absolutely every manager or player that joins under performs or fails relative to their ability everywhere else? United is England, a graveyard for players and managers.

Or maybe they don’t know what to do.

Doubt it, can see him being sacked in March or April

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,843 ✭✭✭GSPfan

I just read his comments today about all the other top 6 sides improving. He is normally quite smart with his spin tactics but to say Spurs improved because they didn’t sign anyone but kept hold of their players is blatantly stupid. He is losing it if he thinks that makes any sense.

Nope. Can only see him getting sacked when it’s mathematically impossible for us to get top 4. Likely March or April but with the current form of these donkeys on our team maybe even in February
