Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Three variations on a Christmas Carol...
    • Scrooged starring Bill Murray
    • A Muppet Christmas Carol
    • A Christmas Carol - the 1999 Patrick Stewart version which is a more faithful adaptation of the Dickens book.

"To follow knowledge like a sinking star..." (Tennyson's Ulysses)

A Muppet Family Christmas... Way better than a Muppet Christmas Carol imo.

Muppets, Fraggles and Sesame Street gang, what's not to love.

    My own ones are;

    Scrooged
    A Muppet Christmas Carol
    National Lampoons Christmas Vacation

The Christmas Carol theme is very popular and very well executed throughout alot of the popular Christmas Movies.

I don't think The Family Man has been mentioned yet, but I love that movie, it was on Channel 5 last weekend but I missed it, hoping it gets a repeat soon.

    Love it.
I've mentioned it in the movies thread a couple of times, I know its not really a christmas movie but starts & ends at christmas & is a lovely story. Its a definite watch for us every year in the build up.

    Muppets Christmas Carol
    Die Hard 1 or 2
    National Lampoons Christmas Vacation
    Home Alone 1

    no particular order

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 7,440 ✭✭✭The Rape of Lucretia

    Elf.
    Will Ferrell makes it.

    Bad Santa.
Can believe this one isnt trending more. Not one for the kids, but its Billy Bobs finest movie apart from The Man Who Wasnt There, and does have a real Christmas ending to it.

    Love Actually
Presumably only a movie for the men, but any movie that has all the women behave as brainless sex objects (apart from the fine Emma Thompson scene which cuts against the grain so much), and the men do indeed 'get' them, all, while reprehensible, is allowable as a once off as part of the magic of Christmas.

Sorry, but Die Hard and Gremlins, despite their general merits, just arent Christmas movies.

So many more to add as I’m addicted to Christmas 24 and True Christmas but they are the most popular

How so? What exactly makes you think they arent christmas films?

Die hard, its his wifes christmas party, on christmas eve, there are at least 3 christmas songs on the soundtrack lots more things.

gremlins - pretty much the whole film takes place at christmas, its a wonderful life is on the tv, people walk about singing and listening to christmas songs, there are christmas decorations all over the place, there are carolers (including gremlins).

Muppet Family Christmas is a must see
    Elf

    Arthur Christmas

Gremlins - Saw this as a very young kid but to this day Im still madly in love with Phoebe Cates

Die Hard II - They had the good sense to set the sequel at christmas as well.

National Lampoons Christmas vacation - I think I like this just because of the Griswald house and how its decorated.

Edit: The Muppet Christmas carol -Have to put this in aswell. Saw it last year in the lighthouse cinema with a screen full of adults and kids and it was magical. Not ashamed to admit that I did shed a tear or two.

Although I do think that "Fred Clause" with Vince Vaughan is massively underrated.

I completely forgot to do the poll for this!

That's just a testament to how busy work was just before Christmas, although it's not much better this month :P

Noms can continue until Sunday and I will open the poll Monday Morning, something to look forward to for after the decorations come down for everyone.

    Okay fine!

    It's a Christmas film.
It's set on Christmas eve at a Christmas party about a man visiting his family for Christmas... it's a no brainer! :p
