So with so much to talk about they didn't even touch on the boca/river game nor the premier league at the weekend! Very strange. There should be no constraints on the time they spend. This episode was only 50min. Very disappointing they don't go on for longer.

I would think on the boca-river stuff Wilson, Rory Smith, Miguel and others were probably travelling back so there'll be an eye witness account during the week rather than just the lads account of following it on social media. Need to save some good stuff for paying members :)

Dont think there was anything particular interesting in PL this week was there ? Jose disaster continues, Pool/city march on. Spurs look good. No new twists.

Fair points, just irks me when there is a lot going on we only get the 50mins. I had forgotten that they had two pods yesterday and its fair that the kenny presser was on. Also forgot it was sponger Monday.

I'd imagine it takes a lot of effort to get an hour long podcast out in one day. So the fact they had two yesterday probably left them pushed for time especially with the managerial changes for the rugby and the soccer team taking priority coverage

Best performance by Ken in a long time today in the football pod. Brilliant, absolutely brilliant :D

Mick McCarthy giving Declan Rice the puss-in-boots eyes to get him to declare for us amazing pod.

I'm judging a book by it's cover here but are they seriously talking about chess again today? With all that's going on in the world of sport, between domestic soccer and rugby, premiership, champions League, Fury vs Wilder..... it's not the week to be talking about chess.

    Football yesterday was 59 mins
    Rugby yesterday was 52 mins

    I'm partial to your abracadabra,

I'm raptured by the joy of it all.

It was only at the start for around 4 mins, and it was fookin gas

Not sure how long they're doing it but I like how they're putting section times in the episode descriptions now so you can skip to the bit you want.

Great pods lately but if they don't have a Wilder vs Fury preview (and a proper one) I'll be disappointed to say the least.

Isnt Mark a big boxing guy? He'd surely push to have someone on to talk about it

You have to hand it to Ken, publish an article in the Irish Times on Saturday, recycle all the same tropes on SC on Monday and get paid twice over for the same thing...

There's just about enough humour injected in to get away with it :p

Takes a fair bit of chutzpah all the same to call for respect for the achievements of a manager in a league to which they show no respect at all.

    I'm partial to your abracadabra,

I'm raptured by the joy of it all.

Somebody made the point here that maybe Ken has lost some gusto as he bored of the repetitive and sterile nature of the premier league.

After this weeks pods, I 100% agree with the observation. He has shown his quality with some meat to dig his teeth into!

    Quality stuff

I think it may have been me that made that observation some time back.
I think, as you get older and you find other things to fill your time with, you realise how relatively meaningless watching the premierleague (and indeed other things you would have spent major time doing in your 20's) is.
Now, when a major part of your job revolves around watching and reporting on it, year after year, I think you can get bored of the whole thing. Granted, still not a bad job to have!

I enjoy the humor and indeed the different angles that lads have on various sports more than watching any of the sports these days.

Ah jaysus. Another Brexit podcast. In the middle of one of the most story filled news weeks in recent memory. Snooze

Brexit is fairly relevant and topical at the same time - especially for a politics episode

But overall second captains is a sports podcast. I listen to other current affairs podcasts where Brexit is covered daily. Sports should surely take precedence. How many people sign up for the world service for the political poegasts? Most of them have been fairly poor

it is what it is really - they advertise that they will do an occasional political podcast - they can hardly be criticized for delivering on their promises.

But that occasional podcast has come in a week where there is tonnes of other things in the sports world they could be covering. It's not as if the political podcast has been a staple of every week for months, every Wednesday.

I'd imagine that the timing of the podcast is as much to do with the availability of the guest/guests as anything else.

Fintan O'Toole has been excellent on Brexit and it was a good listen.

Wasn't expecting to enjoy it as much as I did. I think Fintan may have been reaching a bit with some of his logic but it was an entertaining listen

The podcasts don't exactly go out live, why not keep it for another day. They often pre record podcasts anyway.

Anyway I won't whinge about it anymore! :D

Id say they go through the topics they are going to cover in the production meeting and have a fair idea of whats going to come up during the shows.
