If you want a work horse for farming, stick to the landcruiser/hilux

Yup amarok wouldn’t be the best slow, no power, at least what mate say that drives one with work he said when he has 4 bodies in it you would notice it let alone a trailer tbh.

OMG forget about a trailer so with a few cattle in it. It must be a wagon for picking up the kids from school so . In fairness Toyota have been the king in the jeep space for years.

Still though all very well saying hilux but cost of diesel and its only getting worse buy a hilux doing maybe 25mpg compared to the 2.0 170bhp amarok whcih should put out 35 maybe 40 mpg
Coming from a farming background I would say the amarok is ideal as a nice stylish jeep for light towing wouldnt really be going mad on it with a trailer either but still though for the amount of towing you will most likely be doing it will be able for it ..probably only a few runs a month but that youd be stuck if you couldnt do it

That’s sounds like your mate is talking ribbish to be fair. Friend of mine is on his second new one and loves it, plenty of power for the farm and well able to pull trailers while being fairly decent in fuel and like a vw car inside.

The current model is the highest powered pick up available. The top one goes to 272hp I think. Most other pick up s are 150/190. Towing power is far ahead also. The spec and styling would be far nicer on the ranger imo but if it's power you are looking for amarok is way ahead of the rest

Hp is one thing, Torque is where it matters and the torque curve is also a factor in how well a vehicle tows.
Big HP levels and a peaky torque curve are no good for tow vehicles.

It's the new models have the 3.0 v6, the years the op are referring to are mainly 2.0L models I think

divided opinion at least a little on the amarok. manual or auto transmission? i would do alot of short trips.5 ,10 minutes at a time, rather than long journeys.if i did buy one i would get the 2.0l 180bhp.so maybe some of the above posts where based on the 163bhp 2.0l??

Have the 180bhp 2.0 manual plenty of power no problem pulling my trailer (wouldn’t be pulling the heaviest of loads mind you)
    35-35+ mpg
Would go auto if was to go again nicer drive

    3.0l Hilux 170 bhp torque 343nm, amarok 2.0 180bhp torque 400nm.

    3.0l Hilux 170 bhp torque 343nm, amarok 2.0 180bhp torque 400nm.

Hilux is not the comfiest either

Afraid I've far more hilux experience than amorak.

Hilux about 25 to 27 mpg. They're not as reliable as the used to be.

Amorak is a nicer drive. But I've only had a few spins in them.

All pick ups are pretty unpleasant to drive but the Ford ranger is the pick of them

I like the Hilux also, lively pickup but as a fan of Vw in general I don’t like seeing the Amarok put down which gets done wrongly by people who are set in their ways as it’s not one of the traditional pickups brands/models. It’s also the nicest inside, just like a golf or other vw car.

This is a misconception imo, I’ve driven a Hilux quite a bit and find it comfortable and would happily drive one as my daily driver. I know people driving pickups who would never go back to a car despite doing big mileage as they much prefer the high driving position and find them comfortable. Especially if you drive on rough country roads the pickup glides over bumps and potholes etc while a car feels like it’s going to break and is rattled to the core.

I drive a landcruiser, I've test drove all the pick ups, none of them impressed me.
