Will turning off rads significantly save oil/heating bill?

    I have a two zone heating system - 1 upstairs, 1 downstairs.
Now that my kids are teens they are upstairs more than downstairs in daytime.
If I turn off the rads in rooms that are only slept in at night will that save heating costs?
Does it take significantly more oil to heat 4 rads instead of 2?

    Yes, it would.

Heating a room involves energy and that comes from your boiler burning gas/oil/solid fuel. A large radiator could be outputting as much as 3kW of energy.

The only other side of is that if you also leave those rooms open, you'll be transferring heat from other parts of the house and losing energy that way.

If you keep the door shut and the radiator off when you're not in the room, you'll definitely save energy.
