    Emilio Estevez alias Gordon Bombay.

The work he did with the Mighty Ducks speaks for itself. Bottom of their division to Olympic champions in two years.

Someone give me a brief synopsis of the Saipan saga.

As a Millwall supporter, I’m delighted Mick’s back.

Someone give me a brief synopsis of the Saipan saga.

As a Millwall supporter, I’m delighted Mick’s back.

On the way to Japan they trained in Saipan
When the got to the pitch the gear had all gone
The surface was bumpy and Roy took a strop
Said this fcuking trip is all over the shop

He rounded on Mick and he called him a cnunt
Mick didn’t like it and got very blunt
A meeting was called about who to support
It was like you might say an appearance in court

The players gave their views and mostly backed Mick
Roy threw the head and got very thick
I’m fcuking off home and I’m out of this squad
And if no one comes with me I’ll fly on my tod

So he hit for the airport that very same day
Got on the aircraft and was soon on his way
Back to auld Blighty Twix the the reels and the jigs
And that same afternoon he was out walking Triggs.

That’s about it lad, may not be totally accurate.

Speaking of Tony O'Donoghue, Martin ONeill's contemptuous treatment of him reflected very poorly on the former Ireland manager. Showed himself to be a mean spirited & thin skinned child time & again.

pffft...I won 2 European Cups you know...what have you done?

Ireland qualified for WC 2002. After a gruelling Premiership campaign, Mick decided to bring the squad for a few days R&R and very minimal training in Saipan, before heading to their training base in Japan/Korea to prepare for the WC.

Keane flipped his lid because the training pitch was a bit hard. Mick called him out on his whinging to the papers in a team meeting, Keane got thick and abused Mick. Mick told him to leave. Players talked etc. Mick said that the door was open for Keane to return. Keane refused. Ireland did very well in spite of him.

If I recall correctly we got knocked out by Spain on penos. We did amazing in that world cup.

So Keane thought he was better and more important than his team as a whole? There’s no I in team, Keane!

I have faith that McCarthy (is it confirmed yet that he will take it?) will boost morale and make the Ireland team a hell of a lot more promising than they have been the last 5 years. Go, Micko, get the Millwall players back in the squad!

Could have won the f*cking thing with him. I know that's a cliché at this point but it sure would have improved our chances to have our best player in the team.

Anyone else of the opinion that it doesn't really matter who we get in? Kenny, Big Mick, Bigger Sam, Lil Pep....we still have Delaney and his board of tossers ruining any chance the team has from above. Sure, they could get improved performances from the current squad but where are we actually going to get with that? Particularly the short term thinking which looks ahead 2 years and that's about it.

It's not about the current squad. It's about rebuilding a whole new squad, almost from scratch, with very promising players coming from the youth teams, and Mick has done that for Ireland before.

Is that definitely the plan though? Mick hasn't even been confirmed yet. My guess is that Delaney wanted rid of O'Neill in order to hold on to his own job and bringing Mick in is a popular choice, it might be a good choice too but I doubt the FAI are really thinking "right, lets build something here".

Delaney's job wasn't in danger. Who's going to sack him? It simply got to a point whereby the cost of sacking the management team was negated by the cost of a lack of interest in the Irish international team and 23,000 empty seats at the Aviva

And of course they want to build something - as every sports organization or club in the world does. That's what those underage teams exist for!

Of course Delaney can be sacked, that's part of what the board does. If they weren't his yes men. If he was any good he would walk away at this point. I do agree O'Neill needed to go, no issue with that.

Wanting to and doing are very different, I haven't seen too many exciting young players. Rice and Grealish were the last ones and looks what happened there. We have no structure, national league is a joke. Look at Scotland, Norn Iron and Wales, packed with exciting prospects.

You need to research Ruud Dokter and find out what the underage teams are starting to achieve and the growing list of very highly rated Irish youngsters at the top clubs in England and further afield! I see a few exciting prospects with Wales (developed by clubs in English leagues) but I am not sure who you are referring to in the cases of N. Ireland and Scotland.

Why can't we do it here in the loi rather than them go oversees.

Fai need to do what Germany and England have done. Invest in grassroots and take an interest in the league.

Same as the best fans in the world ™. If they were such big football fans you would see them on Friday nights, they can still watch Liverpool and man utd on Saturday.

Brian Kerr got the job at the wrong time with too many bigger players in bigger teams. If it was 10 years ago he would of had a better chance of doing something with this group.

I wouldn’t mind if Kerr was brought back into the youth setup and Stephen Kenny was given a shot. Have the two of them working together (Kenny obviously as the main man) but try and harness some sort of decent identity and joined strategy in all ranks....

Don’t want McCarthy as he represents the exact same as what we have had the last few years. Let’s scrape by and rejoice if we quality for something. That’s not a long term strategy. The squad he had in 2002 is like Barcelona compared to the one he has now so I don’t think things might work out as well as some people might think.

Ruud Dokter has been mentioned for the last 5 years and we're not winning anything. No doubt we do have young lads coming through but the whole system is f*cked.

Norn Iron and the Scots have plenty of those young lads at English clubs too so we're not special.

Kerr should definitely be involved at some level. Might be a bit early for Kenny though. I don't mean he hasn't got the talent to do it but it would be some risk for the FAI. I doubt they have the stones to make a risky choice like that.

The FAI took a big risk back in 2006 when Steve "I`m the Gaffer" Staunton got the Irish manager job despite having little or no managerial experience at the time. That turned out to be disastrous so I can`t see them repeating the process. Kenny might be offered a role as McCarthy`s assistant or possibly as U21 boss but he won`t get the main job.

McCarthy is cut from the same cloth as O Neil

So if you were John Delaney who would you pick for the job?
