I'm looking to book a trip to Tokyo for my boyfriend's birthday next year and have no clue where to start!

I've looked at Skyscanner for flights but I would prefer to get some ideas of places to visit/best airlines etc before I book anything.

    Any help would be great

Awesome city. Been there once, going back in January.

There’s so much there, it’s hard to know where to start. What are the two of you into?

    Currently sitting in Tokyo...

Best Airline, JAL, 34inch leg room in the back, wider seats and fantastic service
You can fly BA and get 30-31inch leg room and suffer with 9 across instead of 8 and get the grumpy service

Could look at Aeroflot vis Moscow, great service

Gulf carriers worth looking at but its the longer way

I suppose what attracted us both to it was wanting to experience a place that's so different to where we are now! Big into history, culture, food. Want to experience the hustle and bustle of such a big city but would very much like to see the more peaceful side too..if that makes sense :)

Aeroflot are great to fly with, award winning service in fact.

For those who have been how did you find the costs in Japan? Is it similar enough to Ireland for beds, food & travel or on another level altogether? Also do they still do that national train pass for around 250?

Consider also flying via Helsinki. One of the shorter trips and can be had for a good price.
