For me though it's a bit tempered by a feeling that this New Zealand team has looked a little fatigued over the last two months. The losses to South Africa and England we're poor performances. I feel like we will see a much different beast come the World Cup.

I feel you've already been watching a different beast.

    England lost to them.

What a win, what a performance, what a night. Electric atmosphere

Has horrible flashbacks of 2013 near the end of the game but the Irish players gave it there all to make sure history would not repeat

Loved the slow walk forward for the haka

On route home now and going to enjoy a pint later

That little one handed flip recovery from Marmo was terrific.

Folks, we have a really top grade scrum half in Murray.

But both our backups played a serious game of rugby today, and didnt look out of place.

yes, great performance by Marmion at the elite level. chapeau

Are the All Blacks a bit over rated?

No. We barely held them out in the end. Us at our best and playing at home.

Really have to work on the lineout. Twice we lost 5m lineouts on our own throw when we could have sealed the game. Another one we let dribble out and were lucky to hang onto it.
I hope that the win, as great as it was, doesn't cloud the fact that we should really have won by 10-20 points had we been more clinical.

Whenever someone or a team loses they become overrated.

It was disappointing but you need to take into account the quality of the second row pairing we were up against. Retallick is a phenomenal player and Whitelock is merely one of the top 5 locks in the world.

Jonathan Sexton will be live on The Ray Darcy Show next week....with a big grin.

That is very true. Maybe I'm just being overly critical. I just feel our lineout isn't as good as it should be, especially when Toner goes off.

Maybe that is the level we should judge ourselves to. We are the second best team in the world. We need to be looking to win lineouts in the 5m channel against anyone in the world. Certainly there are mitigating factors but I reckon that is something Joe will take from this.

Actually, I've watched the last 10 minutes again. The two kicks from McGrath were actually very good. First one was a pre-determined move. It was to go into a maul and the box kick. The back line had all come up into the line for a chase and he went immediately to the far side of the maul to shape up for the kick. It landed on the edge of the 22 with chasers arriving.

The second kick took place from halfway. Barnes audibly tells the Irish carriers "make sure you arrive up, make sure you arrive up!", pointing to them. He was looking forensically to penalise Ireland for going off feet. He was right to kick. Plenty of air and landed within the sideline and 5m line which gave us a great opportunity of putting the catcher into touch. Could have gone 5m further but could not fault it otherwise.

Hand on heart I thought the loss of Murray would have cost us marginally tonight. Marmion didn't half step up. His delivery was crisp and he chipped in admirably on defense. McGrath paled in comparison when he came on and almost cost us.

Overall though there was a real sense of collective effort that they were going to leave everything out there tonight. We rattled the All Blacks and that's not something that happens very often. We were full value for the win and hopefully Schmidt is sufficiently bolstered by the win to stay on.

Agreed. And I don’t think it was Cronin coming on either. NZ had 4 jumpers today and outside our first 2 jumpers our level drops off. Won’t say who I think needs to pick up their lineout game and take ownership of that facet of play but he has been called a lion tonight and one of the best in the world at 22 years of age

Honestly, McGrath didn't put a foot wrong when he came on. Put in a massive defensive shift and his passing, a real issue of his at times, was pretty much perfect. He played 20 minutes but only 5 Irish players made more tackles.

The two scrum halves had fine games.

The two lineouts we lost were throws to Henderson and Murphy.

Both were slow up and beaten to the ball, either a lethargic lift or poor understanding between jumper and thrower.

After tonight we know we are not completely ****ed if something happens murray.

    However....

    - we are still totally reliant on sexton, carbery needs proper game time between now and the world cup.

    - our lineout goes to the dogs when toner and pom go off.

    - FB is a **** storm outside of kearney

Yes I know that but how many lineout were thrown to Ryan? Not many. He needs to take on the responsibility and ownership of lineout possession to be really top class in my view

Does this mean Ireland are number one in world rankings?

Our very first lineout of the game went to him anyway. Wasn't counting after that.

I'd imagine the vast majority went to Toner because that's his specialty.

Ryan was fantastic around the field. As was Toner to be fair to him.
