Might get the 64gb not sure if I have usb hub can pick one up

Is it worth going with Prime or is it free delivery anyway?

I have prime but I use Amazon all the time so it's worth it for me. I don't use prime video as the selection is crap compared to what I have

Yes, I have the 64GB version. Just be aware some have had overheating issues with these plugged direct into the
usb port on the Shield. I have mine plugged into a usb hub for this reason.

    Ya,Moi being one of them.
As suggested either use a powered Hub or get a USB 3 extension cable to avoid the heating issues as it will wreck the drive, although Argos were good to exchange it for me

    Quick question.
My wife wants to watch ITV hub on shield. Doesn’t work. Can someone recommend a proxy or DNS service that works?
    Thanks

Game controller lasts me for days

Exactly!! Given the size of the game controller the built in battery should last hundreds of hours of use. We never use it for gaming, just for controlling menus and volume control and we're constantly having to charge it every few days whereas the actual remote controller (the slim bar style controller) has a non rechargeable battery which seems to last 6 months or more. Pity the volume slider on it is such a piece if $h1t :(

Have the A2 remote I use with the Minix but if I sell this I may sell the remote

What is the remote like to use esp if typing out something, thus the reason for qwerty keyboard?

I have a few small QWERTY remotes and a couple of Logitech K400 keyboards which are amazing but I find I don't need them with the Shield as once set up there isn't much typing to be done but maybe that's just the way we use it.

Either way I'd recommend starting out with https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.google.android.tv.remote&hl=en and see how you get on. It may well suffice.

Could be that the game controller is constantly listening for "OK Google" thus using more battery than just gaming alone.

Cheers may try that but OH also will be using it and easier to click, point and play for tv shows, movies using the mouse pointer

Can that be turned off on the Shield and if so would that help extend the operating life of the game controller between charges?

Yes, I have mine disabled as I have a Google Home in the room. It's the very first optiin in settings activate mic, just disable it. It will still work when you press the nvidia button on the controller

Try the remote that comes with the shield first it’s perfect at selecting movies on emby or Plex etc and also works very well with iptv on StbEmu

    Cheers

Also have Harmony Hub and remote seen you can use this. So may have a try with that.

    Anyone tried this?

Take it My MAC address will change for IPTV from existing android box???

See that its now £204.03 with controller which is an increase from recent price and £179.99 with Remote on Amazon.

Will keep an eye out on Friday on Amazon and Nvidia site for deals

I think in the IPTV app you will install you can configure the MAC address, so take note of it on the old Android Box and use the same in the IPTV app.

Each device has a unique MAC address, so yes (Might be different for your use case, not sure)

You can't do that - each device has its own unique MAC address so you will need it can be swapped over to the new address.

It's an emulated player, not a physical hardware address. Hardware Mac address don't pass your router

Anyone have a link to a good review of the functionality of the Nvidia shield? Thinking of picking one up but not entirely sure what it does and if/how much you have to pay for additional features. Thanks in advance.

Sorry if this has been asked before but is there a way of getting the pre-installed BBC iPlayer to work I'm using expressvpn and I have a sideloaded iPlayer that works perfectly but for some reason the pre installed version of iPlayer throws up an error when trying to play content even though I have a good connection to a UK server.

It's a weird issue because I remember it working perfectly once. ITV hub works perfectly.

    Sorry hope I've been clear.

Sorry that's just lazy, the internetis full of reviews if you Google, the Shield has been around and been the best box since 2015. Go to YouTube and search for "Nvidia shield review", there's literally thousands of them

Read a couple of reviews but wasn't sure how it worked with emby/Plex. Will check YouTube.

I've been having some iplayer issues (error 02001) and it's odd because some of content works but then some doesnt. The content that is working often fails on first try and if i try immediately after it works fine, then there is some content that just fails totally one day and will work another.

Dr Who works fine, had to try 2 pints of lager & a packet of crisps boxset twice before it works and then something like QI totally fails. It's quite odd

    I'm on getflix btw.

Apologies, I thought you were looking for reviews on the Shield itself of which there are literally thousands, all good reviews btw. The main complaint people have about the Shield is that it's pricey, but it is a games console after all.

Plex and Emby are media server softwares, they're so similar the description is the same for both. You run the software, show it your local media files for which it pulls down all the artwork, covers and posters etc and then you can connect to this server with other devices (clients) from anywhere. The client works in all web browsers and there are dedicated Android and Apple apps making it usable on nearly everything. The Shield can be both server and client.

Oh cool, so the Shield can be both the Plex server AND client. So if I have a locally attached harddrive with media on it, I can have the Plex server running in the background and just open up the client to navigate through the files as I would if my Plex server was on another machine.

I thought the only option (with a nice interface) to play local media was Kodi, but Plex is more straightforward user experience. Not that Kodi is complicated but I'm looking for as simple, uncluttered a system I can get.

I have Plex server working on the Shield connected to a 2TB NAS and all is good in the world. I've access via browser and/or app on other devices and I've issued a couple of shares to family members.

Plex are offering a lifetime Plex Pass for $89.99 in their Black Friday sale (Use Code "FLASH25OFF") but it's only available until midnight Pacific Time today.

Can I ask what the main benefit of having a Plex Pass is? I've looked at the blurb on their website and don't see anything which would enhance the functionality or user experience in any meaningful way. Am I missing something?

Yes, it's got its own version of the Plex app that has both server and client. It can even harness the power of the very powerful Nvidia graphics chip to transcode to lower quality. They say it can handle 2-3 1080p transcodes but direct play uses next to no processor power at all. With a Shield and a NAS you'd never need to leave a PC running.

Emby is pretty much identical to Plex but the Emby server app for the Shield is not as far developed, it's still in beta.
