Is there a difference or are the libraries now the same between UK and Ireland?

If Batman Vs Superman is there you are on the UK version.

There are differences between UK and ROI

Batman v Superman: Dawn Of Justice

is available but as "rent or buy"... should it be included with Prime?

It has changed on my end too. A few months ago that was a sure way to know which region one was in.

EDIT: Go to "Manage Your Content and Devices" on the website and see if "Country/Region Settings" is set to UK

For an IPTV player I've tried:

    IPTV (Alexander Sofronov)
    IPTV Extreme
    Perfect Player IPTV
    Lazy IPTV
    Smart IPTV

I find the Alexander Sofronov one of the best / most useable. Supports pausing without a backend and loads quickly. Purchased to Pro version.

I have the Shield and a Sony Android TV. I'm going to use TVIRL to integrate a selection of IPTV channels into the TV epg, then use the IPTV app on the Shield for the rest.

Are Shield TV boxes something that get reductions in Black friday etc. Or would I be better just pulling the plug and getting one now?

Just discounted to $140 in the US so hopefully something similar will happen here soon or latest Black Friday Nov 23rd.

I saw that price drop posted on Reddit.
    Fantastic value in fairness.
If they offer a discount similar to that over here it will go down very well.
Not that I'll be buying another...
Have nowhere to fecking put it :P

Ok for Black Friday or Black Week or whatever Spin Amazon and co put on I am looking to get the Shield either from Amazon or from the NVidia website itself if reduced

I am currently on a Minix U1 running Marshmallow and happy enough with it but maybe selling it to family member. Using the Neo U1 lite remote and also can use wireless keyboard good for scrolling and browsing. Have a few apps from unknown sources and some from the Play Store that I use and try to keep it to a minimum. Box is rooted so can install Ad Away so no annoying adds.

If I buy the Shield and I don’t want to root it is there bloatware on it and can they be removed? Also is Blokada the only option for blocking adds as I don’t want to root the shield?. Not use to android TV as using Nova launcher on the Minix. I can see over at Xda that this can be installed (https://forum.xda-developers.com/shield-tv/themes-apps/alternate-launcher-root-marshmallow-t3359076) would it be worth it? Remote for Minix I could still use on NVidia shield as good for browsing and using Qwerty keyboard, that correct? Family use to using remove to point and open apps using remote so thus reason for installing Nova

I have read up about side loading apps so that seems easy enough just need to get memory card. Take it that Play store would not have the same availability of some apps as not compatible or would I be able to load up same apps i.e. Skype, BBC I player, Gmail ? Also using StbEmu for IPTV no issue with this loading up?

Take it Google the relevant apps that are not available on the play store and download these to card and side load them?

    Cheers

You have no need to root the shield or install a custom launcher in a Shield. There's no bloat and the homescreen is customisable, you can turn off whatever you don't want showing.

If you want to block ads across your network for all devices get pihole.

Never heard of Pihole as most items around house rooted so ad blockers installed.

I probably will buy it and see if I can install ad blocker as Pihole seems bit complicated at first for me :o

You won't need adblocking on the Shield, trust me! Android TV is a whole different ball game. It's a TV, you want a user experience designed for a 50 a inch screen. You'll not want to go back to a hacked touchscreen tablet version.

If no adds that's great this include those on browsers?

Hopefully Amazon UK will follow suite and offer echo as in the market for this also

You don't get a browser on Android TV. Would you actually browse the internet on your TV?

Who uses a browser on a 50 inch screen?
If I use a browser on mine it's only to find and download an app. I have a phone and a tablet for browsing.

You also mentioned Gmail o_0 I'm afraid you're a little bit mad :D

Only browse for apps to download and gmail for resetting passwords etc but can use the phone for this:D

    Skype for those abroad

Mainly use it for Streaming and IPTV and may try out the gaming option

The ads will hardly hurt then so :p

Install Aptoide and you'll hardly even need a browser

I installed file commander from the play store in my android TV. Then linked it to my Google drive. If I want to sideload anything that I can't find in Aptoide all I need to do is upload it to Google drive and install via file commander.

Assuming it's no more than 2kg. That works out approx 105euro for the shield if you sell the dot to CeX. Bargain!

You should, Amazon should take for it, but I tried to run it through to checkout out of curiosity but they won't ship it to addresspal either anyway.

Not certain of exact figure. But if I choose the shield on it's own and choose delivery to Ireland. Amazon calculates duty fees of $34.35 on the purchase of $139.99

Just got a google home mini, any good places to find out what it can do with the shield?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 4,456 ✭✭✭The high horse brigade

Yes, I have the 64GB version. Just be aware some have had overheating issues with these plugged direct into the
usb port on the Shield. I have mine plugged into a usb hub for this reason.

Might get the 64gb not sure if I have usb hub can pick one up

Is it worth going with Prime or is it free delivery anyway?
